Non-electric grass tent pitch (six person)

Liked: Great pub on site. Good shop and warm welcome. Able to choose pitch site.

Disliked: Disappointed that the showers at the tent feild werent functioning and that hot water to toilet block and washing up sinks were also turned off. Personally we felt that was a health and safety issue esp having no hot water in the toilets to wash hands. We questioned this and were told their weren't enough tents on site to turn it on. There were easily 18 tents. Such a shame as we camped last year and thought it was great. This year we were let down. We've paid the pitch fees so expect the facilities advertised to be open.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: Beautiful well kept park

Disliked: no hot water or showers in the camping area. Later learned it was the managements choice to not turn them on 🤔 the camping area was busy with a lot of kids so we weren’t happy at this choice from the site. We had to walk to showers in the caravan area (and there was only 3 showers for a full site!!)

Non-electric grass tent pitch (solo)

Liked: Location on route to Newcastle, Shop on site and bar restaurant.

Disliked: 5/6 solo motorbike touring -every visit noticed deterioration showers not working unusable, use to have wooden benches tables no sign of those anymore, grass high muddy area from tractor massive holes in grass area not great for big motorbikes especially when raining, frustrating to have to walk over to the motorhome site to use showers after traveling NC500 and Dumfries & Galloway so much better campsites/experience a little more expensive but worth it. Nothing better than quality clean shower and toilet facilities this place unfortunately will be my last visit I would score it a ⭐️⭐️ Being generous not great for a biker.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (six person)

Liked: Lovely holiday park, spacious field where you can pitch your tent anywhere. Our boys loved been able to play football & frisby without been close to others. The toilets were clean along with the showers. Washing up area & drinking water area were clean too. Our boys loved the park. The views were beautiful morning or night. The rabbit holes and the family of rabbits we saw was amazing, so many of them! Perfect base for local attractions or attractions further afield. All in all a lovely quiet family site. Definitely will be back next year on the request of our boys!

Disliked: Having to come home!

Liked: Brilliant site, we camped with friends. 5 of us pitched our tents wherever we wanted, we had a brilliant 3 days. Friendly staff, restaurant on site was brilliant (not stupidly expensive) and the views were amazing. Showers and toilets were clean and tidy, couldn’t fault the place.

Local attractions

Think of Scotland and you likely think of (among other things) castles, whiskey and golf. The latter is nicely provided on site, but there can never be too much of a good thing... Perfect that swing on a handful of courses within easy reach, including one in the village of St Boswells, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. This part of the country should also satisfy even the most ardent castle fans too (as long as they remember to check opening dates): the 16th-century Ferniehirst is 15 minutes away; Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle, Floors, is 25 minutes from base; and the former love nest of Mary Queen of Scots and the fourth Earl of Bothwell, Hermitage Castle, is reachable in less than an hour. Those keen to stay in the past should have a poke around the ruins of Melrose and Jedburgh abbeys, both within 20 minutes, or stick to statelier affairs at Abbotsford and Monteviot within the same radius. Active types might prefer to opt for wanders around Harestanes (10 minutes) or swing through the trees at Go Ape Peebles and pedal down precipitous slopes at the 7stanes trails at Glentress, both 50 minutes away. Gin quaffers will want to pour themselves over to the Born in the Borders visitor centre 25 minutes from base but, when it comes to the uisge beatha (that’s the water of life, or whiskey for all the non-Gaelic speakers), a trip to Edinburgh comes highly recommended for tours of the whiskey museum (plus more museums, castles and shops, of course).
