General
- Luxury glamping with spectacular views over the Scottish Borders hills
- A 25-minute drive to Abbotsford House; half an hour to Dryburgh Abbey
- Heated pods, private gardens and hot tubs; a 10-minute drive to Hawick
Tucked into the spectacular hills of the Scottish Borders, Stouslie Snugs is home to fantastic views across Teviotdale Valley from cute timber-built glamping pods. Located just outside the historic town of Hawick, the site is on a family-run livestock farm, where you’ll get the chance to see Shorthorn cows, calves, sheep and lambs roaming the fields in front of the pods.
Everyone is welcome at Stouslie Snugs, from families to couples and groups looking for a quiet catch up with friends. You can take two well-behaved dogs on holiday with you too, but please keep them under control as this secluded spot is a wonderful haven for wildlife and if you go about your daily business quietly, the chances are you’ll get to spot deer, badgers, hares and owls.
Each cosy pod is packed with homely comforts like a comfy double bed, well-equipped kitchenette and a dining area, plus an ensuite with shower. Free WiFi, a Smart TV and Netflix make sure you can stay in touch with the 21st century too.
A full glass front means you can sit back in the warmth of your pod and still see those views from the comfort of your own sofa – the same views you get when you’re relaxing in your private, wood-fired hot tub on the decking. An enclosed garden area with outdoor seating and a barbecue station (for use with a disposable barbecue) rounds off the facilities.
If you fancy going self-sufficient, there are supermarkets in Hawick (10 minutes’ drive) as well as lots of pubs and restaurants if you’ve sworn off cooking on your glamping break.

Local attractions
The Scottish Borders has more than its fair share of haunted castles, stately piles and museums to discover. You can tour the mellow-stone, former home of Sir Walter Scott at Abbotsford (25 minutes’ drive), visit the atmospheric ruins of Dryburgh Abbey (half an hour) at sunset, or see where Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned at Jedburgh Castle, Jail and Museum – and if you visit Fatlips Castle (both 20 minutes), don’t forget to pick up the key to let yourself in.
In Hawick (10 minutes), you can do a tour and tastings at The Borders Distillery, or pick up bargain cashmere at Lovat Mill. Another pretty Borders town to explore is Melrose (half an hour), with its abbey remains, Roman relics in the Trimontium Museum and two National Trust-owned gardens.
If you have kids on board for your holiday, check out Wilton Lodge Park (10 minutes), which has a vast children’s play area and a bicycle track, or spend the afternoon at Jacksons At Jedburgh (half an hour) for a fun family day out cuddling lambs on the farm (open summer only).
