  • Wild-style camping at a Perthshire wildlife centre
  • A 15-minute drive to Crieff, Drummond Castle and Loch Earn
  • Guest tickets for unlimited entry to the park, café and play area
Ever fancied bedding down among a menagerie of meerkats, lemurs, goats, pigs, donkeys and a whole lot of other entertaining animals? Well, here’s your chance at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park. Of course, you won’t be actually pitching up in the animal pens – there’s a lovely wild-camping-style paddock set aside for guests, with great views over the ponds and the surrounding Perthshire countryside. You will, however, be able to buy tickets giving you unlimited access to the main wildlife park during the day, so you can pop in and meet the animals whenever you wish, spend some time in the soft play barn or let off some steam at the outdoor play area, the mini golf or the ride-on tractors. The wildlife park has a café that’s open during the day for mains, snacks, hot drinks and sweet treats (along with a kids’ menu and ice creams too), but guests are also welcome to use the campsite’s barbecue area for outdoor meals. Comrie and Crieff are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for supplies if you’re self catering. There’s plenty of space at this site, so kids can run about and families can play games; dogs are welcome too, but will need to be kept under control and on a lead at all times. In keeping with the wild-style vibe you’ll have access to compost toilets but please note there are no showers. You can hire firepits if you’d like to have a campfire evening.

What customers say

This site offers a unique wild camping experience within a wildlife park, with visitors praising the amazing animal encounters, friendly staff, and excellent value. Families particularly enjoyed the abundance of activities for children, including play areas and opportunities to interact with animals. While some guests noted the basic nature of wild camping facilities, including a lack of showers and occasional issues with the compost toilet, the availability of main park toilets 24/7 was appreciated. Some reviews mentioned noise from other campers and a few pitches being on a slope.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked The site was lovely and the access to the wildlife park is amazing. If there was showers on site though it would make all the difference

Disliked Land not the flattest, we struggled to find space to pitch all of our tents that wasn’t on a slant. Only toilet next to the pitches was out of order. Farmers dog was allowed to free roam. I appreciate you’re on the park however my dog had to be on a lead at all times and he’s reactive. Not ideal when there is a dog just free roaming around. Dog was also caught relieving himself on the tents pitched.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Loved the atmosphere and the and the friendliness of the staff. Camp site is perfect for those with young families with no shortage of things to do. Value for money could not be faulted. Will definitely be going back for more than one night next time.

Disliked Toilet facilities could have been a little closer to the camping pitches. But this is a minor point as the walk through the park past the animals added to the experience for me.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked This was our first time taking the children camping. The whole experiance at the site was amazing. The pitch was exactly what we were hoping for. The fire pit provided was brilliant.
The staff at reception when we arrived were 1st class and deserve a lot of credit for making the stay wonderful. We all loved the access to the animals all day. We will definately be back for more than 1 night next time.

Disliked No negatives at all. 100% what we were hoping for.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Access to the park after hours. Dog friendly. Amazing views / setting. Lovely staff. Wild swimming pond looked great though we didn't manage to try it.

Disliked Composting toilet not amazing, but park toilets are close enough that we didn't need to use it.

Local attractions

Once you've met the animals on site, how about taking off to see some native wildlife? The big birds might be the main attraction at Argaty Red Kites (35 minutes’ drive), but you can also spot things like roe deer and red squirrels as well as seeing what you can see from the bird hides. Some time exploring the scenery should be on the cards too – perhaps a waterside stroll at Loch Earn (15 minutes’ drive, and also home to a good watersports centre), a woodland wander to reach Doune Castle (half an hour) or a steep climb up Callander Crags (45 minutes). Drummond Castle Gardens (15 minutes) is also a good spot for green-fingered types. If the kids are in the mood for more activity, take them along to Action Glen (15 minutes) for days of quad biking, segway riding and scrambling along treetop trails. And if you’ve not got the kids? Well, there’s always the Glenturret Distillery (15 minutes)…
