Romantic and luxury family pods

General

  • Sustainable, eco and dog-friendly site with a range of accommodation
  • Among spectacular scenery to the south of Cairngorms National Park
  • Llama trekking; heated amenities; bothy with kitchen, toys and books

Llama trekking, award winning and even dog renting (yes really)... it’s small wonder that Scottish glampsite Ecocamp Glenshee is rather well known around the land. Media types – who generally know a newsworthy thing or two when they see it – have happily covered this spectacular Perthshire place and its green setting, excellent accommodation and quite a bit more; yes, this is where you pause and peruse the site pics.

Ecoocamp Glenshee has been a sustainable glamping site for almost a decade, flocked to by guests who want a peaceful and laidback place and a base for outdoor adventures. It’s 25 minutes' drive from Blairgowrie, set on the southern edge of the spectacularly scenic Cairngorms National Park, just under the slopes of Mount Blair with views across to the peak of Schiehallion. There’s a wide range of accommodation to settle down in; again, this is a time to peruse the site pics…

You can be out and about all day long around this part of Scotland… try your hand at hill walking or trail running, rock climbing or mountain biking, wild swimming, canoeing and kayking and hikes through forests and around lochs. And that’s just in the warmer months… when it’s colder, Glenshee Ski Centre is 20 minutes’ drive north for snowboarding, cross-country skiing and downhill and touring skiing.

Amenities are excellent: the shower and toilet blocks are heated and insulated with unlimited and free hot water, and communal space The Bothy has seating, sofas, toys, local info, a library, a woodburning stove, charging points and a fully-equipped kitchen. Pick up supplies at the award-winning shop 10 minutes’ drive away, or buy sausages, bacon, burgers, baps and homemade scones and cakes from the Ecocamp Glenshee team.

And if you want to bring the dog? Ecocamp Glenshee not only welcomes dogs, it welcomes them with their own bed, a homemade dog treat and – your dog will get getting ideas – personalised food bowls; just let the team know the name of your dog when you book.

And if you don’t have a dog? Guests can ‘rent’ resident canines Smudge and Mousa, for walkies around the local wilderness and heather moorland.

We were going for camping in a tent but managed to upgrade to a pod and it was soo cosy and with all the rain it was nice to have somewhere warm to go when at home. The toilets and showers were nice and clean. The bothy area was great to meet people and be able to have a little somewhere to sit and eat and play games. There was a fridge, pots, pans, plates, mugs and cutlery to use and little stoves so we were able to cook each day if we needed. The owners were very helpful in providing anything else we may need if they had it which was fab! Each pod had its own picnic table and fire pit/BBQ which we used and for a £10 you can buy all the things you need to get this up and running from the owners and they even threw in a bag of marshmallows for us.

    Disliked:

Car has to be parked in a car park at the bottom of the hill and not near to tent but to be honest there isn't much of a walk to the car park and you can drive your car into the camp to unload and load up at the start and the end.
There was a code and wifi name but we could not find the wifi to access. Weather this was due to the harsh weather we are uncertain.

  • Romantic shepherd's hut
  • Recommend to friends   Visit again
  • Liked:

Pretty site with spectacular views. Shepherds hut was tiny but comfortable and had nice touches like tea light candles and water provided. There is no room to cook indoors but a communal bothy near the site entrance meant we could cook and eat indoors when it was wet. Chickens and donkeys and llamas nearby add some country cuteness.

    Disliked:

Long walk over soggy grass to the toilets in the pitch dark. There were some large poles lying across the grass which were a serious trip hazard in the dark. Any kind of path to mark the way would have improved this.

Some separate washing up facilities would have been helpful, there was only the one sink in the bothy which was very crowded on a wet evening.

Also, while I love chickens, I don’t love being wakened at 4am by a noisy cockerel.
