General

  • Seaside holiday park in Lossiemouth on the Moray Firth coastline
  • Indoor swimming pool and live entertainment included in the rate
  • First-class facilities including fitness centre, sauna and restaurant

Silver Sands Holiday Park on Scotland's Moray Firth coastline is named after the sparkling stretch of beach that runs alongside it, but you'll reckon what's on site is pretty sparkling too: revamped facilities including an indoor swimming pool (free), a sauna and a fitness suite should have you feeling pretty bright…

Silver Sands is at Lossiemouth on the north-eastern Scottish coastline, minutes from the very fine Moray Golf Club and a short drive from Inverness. As well as the pool, fitness suite and sauna, this well-maintained park has a restaurant and bar, an adventure play area for the kids, and live evening entertainment – and like the pool, facilities are free.

You'll likely spend quite a bit of time off base too: Silver Sands has direct access to the three sandy miles of West Beach, brimming with rock pools, caves and sand dunes to explore.

    NOTHING!

    Disliked:

It was disgusting. They tell you a pitch number but then say someone might be on it as it’s a free for all just find another one. They pitches are all on top of each other and it looks like a dirty mess. The showers and toilets are tiny for such a large amount of people and were not nice!
The actual static caravan part on the other side looked fine.
We didn’t stay!! Rather drive the 7 hours home than have to stay there as no way would I use those toilets and showers.

Location, right next to the beach, lots of facilities on site.

    Disliked:

No hookup campervan area was the same as the tent area. Complete free for all and on uneven ground. Meaning if you leave with your van during the day you had to find another area on your return. The shower blocks we’re very dirty, lots of black mold. Very few taps worked in the toilets. We weren’t told that they required a £10 cash deposit for the key fob and that we needed to carry our park pass to obtain a drink from the bar.

Great overall site. Easy walk to the beach. Great to watch the aircraft from RAF Lossiemouth.

    Disliked:

Women’s shower block was a little grubby. There was black mould on the floor sealant between the shower and the floor together with mould on ceiling above the showers.

Local attractions

The harbour and fishing town of Lossiemouth is a few miles from Silver Sands Holiday Park and has a good range of shops and restaurants as well as a fisheries museum, a small theatre/gig venue and the 18 holes of Moray Golf Club, regarded by those in the know as one of Scotland's finest courses.

If you want to dig into Scotland's rich history, Balvenie Castle, one of the oldest stone castles in Scotland, is a short drive away, as is Inverness Castle, in the centre of the town overlooking the River Ness. Hang around in town after a trip to the castle for more historic buildings like Inverness Cathedral and the Old High Church.

It's also not far to the shops, restaurants, museums, galleries and history of Aberdeen: recommended are the Aberdeen Art Gallery, Aberdeen Maritime Museum, live music in Belmont Street, Provost Ross' House and, if you're around in summer, dropping into some shows at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival.

Must see

  • Glenfiddich Distillery (20.1 miles)
  • The Glenlivet Distillery Visitor Centre (26.1 miles)
  • Glenmorangie Distillery (28.3 miles)
