Good access to Glasgow, great chippy up the road. World of wings is a good visit for the kids. Some lovely views from some pitches. Good breakfast at the cafe.

    Disliked:

As described, the toilets are basic (but clean) and no showers and a 2 minutes walk away. We had a group of families who were still playing music until midnight and being fairly loud talking until 2am.

1 "World of Wings" attached to the campsite, very good 'zoo' for rescued birds.
2 I don't need to ever go there again.

    Disliked:

The best place to park the motorhome was the "World of Wings" car park as that's where the only toilets were. There were no showers or chemical toilet waste point. There was a grumpy old man who would not let the child play in the play area attached to "World of Wings" after 16.30

We arrived very late but still received a very warm welcome - they called to check where we were up to and give directions if needed. Even pitches, clean toilets, free WiFi, great coffee from the cafe to set us up for the morning. Perfect and just as described..... plus, the rather unique experience (for the UK) of waking to the sound of a Kookaburra!

    Disliked:

Everything we would not stay here again!

From the manager...

I myself stay on site and was completely unaware of all this noise. Most guests comment on how peaceful their stay with us is.
We don’t have street lights on our country road so perhaps packing a torch next time would help.
We have three toilets on site about 2 min walk, one dedicated female, one dedicated male and an accessible toilet which is available to everyone.
I’m sorry you missed the facilities section which says we don’t have showers.

Really enjoyed our stay. Nice and quiet, good area for pitching tent and The Cabin is nearby if you fancy a wee seat and a cup of tea to warm you up in bad weather. Lost a star simply because I was unable to charge by phone in the cafe. Reasons were completely understandable as the fuse blew from too many things being plugged in but my phone was completely dead and I was with a young child on my own with no other means of contact during the night. Would be very handy to have a charging point of some sort for emergencies. Other than that, very helpful staff, accessible toilets with hot water, World of Wings was good and Palacerigg Country Park is a 20 min walk.

    Disliked:

    No where for charging phone.

From the manager...

Thank you for you comments. I understand you may have had an issue with not being able to charging your phone. I carry a spare battery pack at all times for this very reason and it has been very useful.
Look forward to you visiting again.

Could be good for anyone with kids looking for an activity filled holiday, plenty of that. Also, good flat pitches, if the campsite was a little cramped

    Disliked:

No showers and only one ladies and one gents toilet, no signs leading up to the place (the signs for Blairlinn take you in the opposite direction!) and the lady at reception, although admittedly very kind when checking in, was rude afterwards. As free camping is allowed in Scotland, I feel I paid for no good reason and could have found similar accommodation for free

From the manager...

Our campsite can accommodate 15 tent pitches. On your date we had 9. We do not allocate a particular area, our guests are free to pitch where they like (within reason) either gather their group together or stay isolated. Space is never an issue.
The only conversation I had with you later was when you asked where the showers were. I replied ‘We don’t have any’. How this was construed as rude is beyond me.
I’m sorry you missed the facilities section which would have told you all you needed to know and thank you for our 4/5 for facilities.
Three toilets on site, ladies, gents and accessible.

Beautiful rural setting yet close enough to Glasgow, Falkirk and Edinburgh, kids play Park, great cafe for breakfasts, world of wings on site (pay extra but kids loved it)

    Disliked:

We booked knowing no showers and so prepared for that but I still think a campsite should be able to offer more than a sink in the toilet for washing and the toilet isn’t close to the pitches - fine in the day but less fun at night in the rain with a young child

From the manager...

Thanks for your kind comments. I’m not sure if you saw on our information sheet that told you showers were available at our nearby sports centre. I checked the prices today 19/08/2018 and they told me the cost is £2.10.
As to the rain well, we would have loved if our beautiful summer had lasted longer too.
Look forward to you visiting again.

Hated it... loud groups shouting & drinking up to 3.30am
Spoke to staff next morning & all I was told was it was going to be worse as more groups joining the loud ones...we packed up & left after paying for a few nights.. 😡

    Disliked:

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. Our usual peaceful quiet site seems to have been invaded by a group of party revellers. I spoke to them and asked if they could keep the noise down for the sake of others. The reply wasn’t so favourable so I asked them all to leave.
As we were unaware of your change of plans we couldn’t let you know.
Our priority is to have everyone relax, enjoy the countryside and unwind.
Pm me and I will discuss this further with you.

Unmanned aspect and toilets 10 minute walk away from campsite

From the manager...

Whilst we appreciate factual feedback,
we timed the walk with families with children and it took less than 2 min to walk to the toilets.
You could have pitched in a field anywhere but I doubt you would have had acccess to:
Fresh water
Toilets
Hot and cold water to wash with
Free WiFi
Cafe on site
Beautiful outlook
Friendly staff
All for he price of £7.00
We have a small friendly site and try to help our travelers as much as possible. We do not advertise any frills, if this is what you require then I would advise choosing another site with more facilities to suit your needs.

    Disliked:

No shower ( but has lots of hot water at the sinks in the toilets).

From the manager...

Thank you for your feedback.
Many of our Campervan guests prefer to stay within our private car park rather than the camping site as it can be much quieter and they then have 24 hour access to our free WiFi - the WiFi doesn’t reach to the main campsite.
We don’t advertise we have showers so I am sorry you though we did.
Glad you enjoyed breakfast. We look forward to your next visit.

Local attractions

Campsites by cities are surely splendid, and Blairlinn campsite is well placed for Scotland's two biggest. Glasgow and Edinburgh: Glasgow is around 11 miles away and Edinburgh about 25. Go to the former for those Sauchiehall Street pints after a day among the museums and galleries; the latter for many a festival (obvs) and other capital highlights like Edinburgh Castle.

Staying within countryside locale, guests at Blairlinn could canter around the local riding stables or the country walks near the Luggie Burn or cast off for whoppers at the 150 pegs and seven waters of Magicroft Coarse Fishery. Nearby Palacerigg Golf Course is open to visitors.

Pottering around Palacerigg Country Park is a topping family day out among a rare breeds collection, nature trails, play park and treetop walkway.

Cumbernauld is the nearest town to Blairlinn: it's one of Scotland's new towns so alas doesn't come with the comely old castles or churches you might expect/hope for, but is much recommended anyway for shopping and an eve at Cumbernauld Theatre. (As a new town, a look at it is also recommended for town planning/architectural geeks – and if you've ever seen Gregory's Girl you might recognise the locale.)

The nearby Antonine Wall was the most northernly frontier barrier of the Roman Empire (no, this wasn't Hadrian's Wall) and runs right across Scotland from Clyde to Firth; walk or cycle its local route or stop off at a few of the many museums.

You could also trot on a day trip to Falkirk, about 20 miles from Glasgow, for more shopping and to see equine sculptures the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel, connecting the Forth and Clyde and the Union canals.

Must see

  • Glasgow Cathedral (11.1 miles)
  • Gallery of Modern Art (11.9 miles)
  • Glasgow School of Art (12.1 miles)
