Beautiful field to camp in with stunning views, kids could run around. Feeling of space rather than having a set pitch. Lovely staff who were friendly and accommodating. I liked that the website described exactly the type of camping site it was which was what attracted me to it. It's a basic campsite which fits with the price.

we went with another family and loved it. The big well kept field was ideal for proper camping, plenty space for kids to run around.
Few 100 yards from World of Wings which was well worth a visit and there is a great cafe that does bacon rolls anytine.
2 nights camping perfect for me.
As always with camping it depends what you are looking for as to whether you will like it.

Views, location and proximity to services. Good price. Efficient checkin process. Bird centre visit and display was good.

    Disliked:

Lacked services like showers or shop, with an office hourse only cafe and reception area.

Actual camping area small relative to number of pitches, and relies on a car-usage road to walk to reception and toilets. Car parking area also small and got jammed up.

Seems silly to put a kids play area in that is only accessible via the cafe entrance, and in a place requiring quiet because of proximity to bird sanctuary.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments.
There are a few details I would like to clarify. There is no mention on our listing of showers or shop facilities, we do however give everyone a welcome pack with details of our nearest Asda and Tesco - approx 2 miles away and our local sports centre where you can have a shower.
Our cafe is open during the hours of 9.00am - 4.30pm similar to almost every other cafe across the country. The play area was built next to the cafe for the use of the cafe customers and not for the campers. We are happy for the campers to use the play area during our cafe opening hours.
We have 1 car park exclusively for the use of campers and another 2 car parks which the campers or Centre guests can use.
If there was anything else you needed where we could have helped, you had our mobile numbers and we leave a sign on the door which has our direct land line number.
On the pitch site itself we have two areas for camping which can easily accommodate 18 pitches. The most we had while you were here was 12.
The price which you placed in the 'like' section is reflective of our facilities. Which include clean toilets, hot and cold water, fresh water, a beautiful outlook and a rural setting.

Lovely campsite. Were there with our family and friends with their kids. They all had a great time playing on the site. Even the thunderstorms didn't dampen our spirits!
We found the staff to be very helpful and made us feel welcome. The toilets are a couple of minutes walk away but didn't bother us.

Local attractions

We do like campsites by cities, and Blairlinn campsite is well placed for Scotland's two biggest Glasgow and Edinburgh: Glasgow is around 11 miles away and Edinburgh about 25. Go to the former for those Sauchiehall Street pints after a day among the museums and galleries; the latter for many a festival (obvs) and other capital highlights like Edinburgh Castle.

Staying within countryside locale, guests at Blairlinn could canter around the local riding stables or the country walks near the Luggie Burn or cast off for whoppers at the 150 pegs and seven waters of Magicroft Coarse Fishery. Nearby Palacerigg Golf Course is open to visitors.

Pottering around Palacerigg Country Park is a topping family day out among a rare breeds collection, nature trails, play park and treetop walkway.

Cumbernauld is the nearest town to Blairlinn: it's one of Scotland's new towns so alas doesn't come with the comely old castles or churches you might expect/hope for, but we Pitchuppers would recommend a trip in for shopping and an eve at Cumbernauld Theatre. (As a new town, a look at it is also recommended for town planning/architectural geeks – and if you've ever seen Gregory's Girl you might recognise the locale.)

The nearby Antonine Wall was the most northernly frontier barrier of the Roman Empire (no, this wasn't Hadrian's Wall) and runs right across Scotland from Clyde to Firth; walk or cycle its local route or stop off at a few of the many museums.

You could also trot on a day trip to Falkirk, about 20 miles from Glasgow, for more shopping and to see equine sculptures the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel, connecting the Forth and Clyde and the Union canals.

Must see

  • Glasgow Cathedral (11.1 miles)
  • Gallery of Modern Art (11.9 miles)
  • Glasgow School of Art (12.1 miles)
