Nice basic campsite. What more do you need really than fresh water, nice clean toilets and hot water in toilet sink?
My husband and I were lucky enough to have the field to ourselves for a few nights and the other nights only one other tent with us.
Great for local shops, transport and national parks. The side is very peaceful.
Very close to shops so we bought fresh food each day.
Swimming pool up the road allows you to use showers at £2 but often they just let you in for free.
Lots to do on site but we had lots of other plans so didn't take advantage of this, I'm sure the café is lovely.
Free wifi at the café, we didn't use it but I am sure other people would appreciate it. Staff were friendly and welcoming and gave us good advice on travelling to Edinburgh for the day.
    Overall great stay.

Great clean site. The ground is firm but not stony so it's easy to get pegs in. A couple of reviews have mentioned noise from the lane which passes the field but we didn't notice any and had two peaceful nights. Jo, David and the staff are friendly and welcoming and were super helpful in recommending a mechanic to sort out a problem on our car.

We absolutely loved the setting and the field itself. It has some nice little forest next to the field and a view of horses on nearby hill.
The campsite was peacefully most of the time, and the weather was great.
There are toilets and a caffee, so for this price you get everything.

Very polite and helpful staff and owners.
No problems with other camping people, it was not busy at all at the time.

We came all the way from Cambridge and we had a lovely time in Blairlinn campsite.
Definitely our favourite campsite in Scotland.
Big big recomendation, definitely would visit again.

    Disliked:

No showers in the site - it's not a surprise as it is advertised, but it's a con. Understandably the price for a night would be higher. There is a sports center nearby and we got the directions from the campsite owners. If you need you can have shower there.

There is a road directly next to the campsite, just behind the shrubs that can be sometimes busy and noisy.
I think there is some kind of barn or some kind of factory nearby. I don't know if that was caused by it, or something else, but on our second night, about 1 or 2 at night we could hear fairly loud noises coming from nearby. It felt like heavy machines or something. It stopped after a while, but till then it was bit too noisy to sleep. Only one night was like that.

    Other than that, no complaints!

Bad location (not well indicated in navegator either), no showers, far away toilets, and no chance to charge your phone for free.

From the manager...

Thank you for your feedback. We have taken note that people may not be able to follow our signage and we now email an Information/direction letter to each of our pre booked guests.
We do clearly say we don't have showers giving you the opportunity to book elsewhere.
I measured the 'far away toilets' and took an average from many people. The average from the campsite to the toilets was 150 steps or 1 min 20 sec.
Due to many of our guests taking liberties with our electricity use, we introduced a token charge of £1.00 per 30mins per device. Many of our guests prepare in advance for a camping break i.e. spare battery or in car charger. Please bear in mind the £13.00 you paid to Pitchup covers, their fee, a pitch, fresh water, hot water, toilets and free wifi. Our guests are grateful for this extra service and appreciate that electricity is not free.

Local attractions

We do like campsites by cities, and Blairlinn campsite is well placed for Scotland's two biggest Glasgow and Edinburgh: Glasgow is around 11 miles away and Edinburgh about 25. Go to the former for those Sauchiehall Street pints after a day among the museums and galleries; the latter for many a festival (obvs) and other capital highlights like Edinburgh Castle.

Staying within countryside locale, guests at Blairlinn could canter around the local riding stables or the country walks near the Luggie Burn or cast off for whoppers at the 150 pegs and seven waters of Magicroft Coarse Fishery. Nearby Palacerigg Golf Course is open to visitors.

Pottering around Palacerigg Country Park is a topping family day out among a rare breeds collection, nature trails, play park and treetop walkway.

Cumbernauld is the nearest town to Blairlinn: it's one of Scotland's new towns so alas doesn't come with the comely old castles or churches you might expect/hope for, but we Pitchuppers would recommend a trip in for shopping and an eve at Cumbernauld Theatre. (As a new town, a look at it is also recommended for town planning/architectural geeks – and if you've ever seen Gregory's Girl you might recognise the locale.)

The nearby Antonine Wall was the most northernly frontier barrier of the Roman Empire (no, this wasn't Hadrian's Wall) and runs right across Scotland from Clyde to Firth; walk or cycle its local route or stop off at a few of the many museums.

You could also trot on a day trip to Falkirk, about 20 miles from Glasgow, for more shopping and to see equine sculptures the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel, connecting the Forth and Clyde and the Union canals.

Must see

  • Glasgow Cathedral (11.1 miles)
  • Gallery of Modern Art (11.9 miles)
  • Glasgow School of Art (12.1 miles)
