  • Luxury individual glamping pod with stunning views of Loch Morar
  • A 15-minute drive from Mallaig and 45 minutes from Glenfinnan
  • The perfect get away from it all place to stay
Hands up, anyone that’s ever dreamt of leaving it all behind and running off to a hut in a secluded but scenic spot (ideally one where you can really properly get away from the trappings of modern life…) If such an idea has you frantically waving your hand, you’ll certainly want to take a look at The Wee Lodge on Loch Morar. This cosy little self-contained glamping pod on a working croft firmly ticks all those boxes – it’s in a mighty peaceful spot on the northern shore of Loch Morar, with stunning views across the water to the mountains beyond. As it’s a remote location there’s no mobile signal or wifi here, so you’ll be blissfully free of notifications interrupting your time spent gazing out at the view from your deck. And it’s secluded too, but not entirely in the middle of nowhere: the A830 is three miles away and Mallaig six miles, so you’ll be sorted for supplies and ways to explore this corner of the Highlands and Islands. That’s if you want to explore, of course – no one would blame you if you simply chose to hole up here for the duration, keeping it local for walks, canoe outings, beach days or just staring at the scenery. Inside the lodge is just as enticing: the cosy interior contains a double bed, sofa, dining table, shower room and a kitchen area with a hob, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. All the linen, towels and kitchen kit is included, as is electricity, hot water and drinking water, making it all nice and easy to fulfil that remote hut dream…

Local attractions

The mountain and loch scenery around here is pretty special, but you should still leave it behind to explore the local coastline too. There are gorgeous beaches three miles away at Morar and Camusdarach and all sorts of fine craggy views to be had elsewhere. And of course there are the islands too: Mallaig is a handy port to have up the road as it’s the place for trips to the Small Isles (Rùm, Eigg and Canna) and to Skye for visits to the Fairy Pools and Armadale Castle and a tour of the Talisker whisky distillery. Back on the mainland, a popular spot to visit is Glenfinnan, 45 minutes’ drive away. The monumental Glenfinnan Viaduct was a favourite for its gorgeous scenery way before it had a starring role in the Harry Potter films, but now it’s an internationally famed spot. Stop in at the railway museum first, then set out on the hiking trail to find the best views for your snaps (time it right and you might even catch a steam train puffing along).
