General

  • Luxurious dog-friendly glamping pod with views over Loch Ness
  • Walk to Loch Ness, the Falls of Divach and Urquhart Castle
  • A kitchenette, ensuite and private parking; footpaths from the village

Looking to Loch Ness for breaks made up of cruising across lochs, horse riding, cycling or fishing? Coiltie Glampod is a glamping pod in Glen Coiltie on the outskirts of Drumnadrochit, designed for those who like their creature comforts. With views of Loch Ness and a dog-friendly status (up to two dogs are welcome free of charge), there’s lots to like about this place…

Dubbed a ‘glampod’, the hand-built microlodge is very much luxurious, fully insulated with underfloor heating and a UPVC external door and windows. It’s been designed for four folks (ideally two adults and two kids) to unwind surrounded by native trees and bracken in a peaceful private patch with private parking. There’s a double bed with ample storage options, bedding towels and an ensuite bathroom with a sink, toilet and full-sized shower.

What else? The lounge has a sofa bed, doggy bedding, bowls and treats, and a folding table and chairs for tucking into whatever you rustle up in the kitchenette. The facilities there include hand-built kitchen units, a mini Belfast sink, two-ring induction hob, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster, as well as crockery, pots and pans, glassware, cutlery and kitchen utensils.

Fed and re-energised, look to the number of signposted walks that start in the Drumnadrochit car park. The village is 25 minutes’ walk away and has all your typical amenities like shops and pubs. The Loch Ness Centre & Exhibition is just half an hour’s walk for those of you that want to hunt her down pronto too.

Back at your Scottish Highlands pad, you’ve got plenty of ways to unwind upon your return: wifi, Bluetooth speakers, a Smart TV and a welcome pack. Enjoy chilled-out evenings in the private garden, which has plenty of seating for up to four people.

We loved everything about this dog friendly accommodation. So much luxury squeezed into a glamping pod. The location is perfect for exploring the Loch Ness area. Easily the best thing about this place is John the host. Friendly and helpful, John was full of useful information from walks to restaurants and take away recommendations.

Local attractions

With such a prime location in Urquhart Bay, you might want to begin by exploring the lochside ruins that are the Urquhart Castle (55 minutes’ walk or five minutes’ drive) – there’s a former prison cell and a climbable tower.

Hunt down some local waterfalls – at only 15 minutes’ walk from the site, the Falls of Divach could make a pretty spectacular post-breakfast stroll. As for other gorgeous Highland landscapes, get out over glens like Glen Urquhart (half an hour) and Glen Moriston (50 minutes).

Inverness (half an hour), which has quite the offering too: a big swimming pool, a museum and art gallery and over Victorian footbridges on the river Ness, walks between the pines on the Ness Islands.
If you want more hikes after that, the 79-mile-long Great Glen Way begins in Inverness and ends at Fort William in the west or there are trails in Abriachan (15 minutes).

Must see

  • The Official Loch Ness Monster Exhibition (1.2 miles)
  • Urquhart Castle (1.4 miles)
  • Jacobite Cruises (13.6 miles)
