  • Glamping on a working farm site in a Scottish Highlands wildlife haven
  • A 15-minute drive to Glen Affric; 20 minutes to Loch Ness
  • Farm shop and bar on site; alpaca treks and highland cattle to meet
Hunt down the Loch Ness monster, scale gusty mountain summits… and set a sturdy base at the working farm site Capers in Cannich Glamping, where you can return to gently grazing highland cattle, sheep and alpacas. Just off the North Coast 500 route, this site makes a peaceful rural refuge in Scotland’s Highlands and Islands, a 15-minute drive from Glen Affric. Snuggled between the glens and bare mountains of Kintail in the west and the towering peaks and mellow lochs in the north, you'll be well set for hiking, wild swimming or hunting down Nessie by boat, 20 minutes’ drive away in Loch Ness. Into the mountains you go… with nature reserves, native woods and moorlands circling the site, walkers will find their fancy in all areas. But animal life is also rife on site… trek with the alpacas and wave hello to cockerels, highland cattle and sheep as you go. But, what would be a farm holiday without a taste of the local produce? The on-site farm shop has a selection of meats and treats to tuck into as you please. And for more savoury meals, you can stop by the pop-up style restaurant and wash it down with a drink afterwards from the on-site bar. If you’re missing anything, the local shop is only five minutes’ drive away in the local village of Cannich (order and delivery available too). Be sure to stock up on burgers and buns or grab a meat box from the farm shop, ready for the barbecue area, set up opposite the River Glass.

Local attractions

Where to first? To hunt down Nessie by boat at Loch Ness (20 minutes’ drive), with clues from the Loch Ness Centre & Exhibition (20 minutes), or to head out in search of wild water swimming among waterfalls at Plodda Falls (20 minutes’ drive) or the Fairy Glen Falls (55 minutes)? The lochs practically invite swimming, sailing and canoeing. Find Loch Affric (35 minutes) at the foot of the mountains or the remote Glen Cannich (20 minutes), now flooded and conjoined with Loch Mullardoch. Glen Strathfarrar (35 minutes) is another area of hills for hiking. And up north, the lesser-known Strath Canon (an hour) harbours a mix of haunting moorlands, lochs and ancient Caledonian pinewoods. Take the land by wheel… cycle parts of the Great Glen Way 73-mile route, beginning in Inverness (40 minutes). Or simply stay closer to site and visit the village of Cannich, where the fertile waters of Strathglass (5 minutes) lead to the village’s ancient Beauly Priory (half an hour). Want to learn more about times past? Wander around the clifftop Urquhart Castle (25 minutes), where royal battles were once fought over Loch Ness.
