  • Hand-crafted pod with valley views at Glendale on the Isle of Skye
  • Neist Point Lighthouse 15 minutes’ drive; Dunvegan Castle 25 minutes
  • Kitchenette, private decking and firepit; shop 10 minutes’ walk
Located on a six-acre croft in the village of Glendale in the north-west of Skye, Glendale Studio Pods is home to stylish and hand-crafted mini abodes that make a cosy retreat for couples (and up to two canine chums) seeking a romantic Hebridean hideaway. And you won’t be disturbed – it’s so quiet here, apparently even the sheep whisper. Inside, each luxurious pod has floor-to-ceiling windows – all the better to admire views up the glen to the flat-topped MacLeod’s Table – along with characterful oak-pegged beams and waney-edge shelving. A double bed, a comfy sofa and a dining table are provided too, plus an electric fire to keep everyone warm. Things to make your life easy include USB charging points for devices and storage space for your kit (take plenty of layers to combat the unpredictable Skye weather). The kitchenette and bathroom are equipped with everything you need; just be aware the shower is a tad on the small side due the constraints of the building. French doors lead onto the decking for lazing around on summer evenings as the sun sets, or cuddling up around the firepit for alfresco barbecue suppers. There’s little light pollution, so if the sky is clear after dark, climb into the hammock and gaze up at the stars – you might get lucky and spot the Northern Lights flashing colours across the sky. There’s a shop in Glendale (10 minutes’ walk) for essentials, plus a sprinkling of restaurants and cafés at about the same distance.

Moonrise microlodge

Liked: A beautiful location - so peaceful and it was perfect as our friends had the other cabin! Everything you need is there and don't bother shopping before you come, the local shop has EVERYTHING you need.

Disliked: The smoke detector was positioned over the hot plate so even with a window open, I couldn't make anything without the alarm going off - but that's it really. The top cabin that our friends had had way better wifi. Ours was hit and miss. We went to theirs to make contact with home and we wanted some peace so it didn't spoil the stay.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind comments, so nice to see families enjoying our little piece of paradise. Sorry to hear the Wi-Fi wasn’t up to scratch, we have since identified the glitch and have now resolved the problem so the Wi-Fi is now tip top.

Best EVER!

Blue Skye microlodge

Liked: This was the perfect escape from the real world! There are just 2 pods on the property and my friend and i booked them with our kids (1 adult 1 child each). We felt so safe and secluded in these beautiful cabins. The kids (9 years) had a great time exploring and building fires for marshmallows. It was such a breathe of fresh air, with ease and access of everything we needed. There is a small (but fully stocked) little shop near the pods and it even has Gluten Free options!!! The views were amazing, everything was amazing. I will 100% stay again!

Moonrise microlodge

Liked: I can't thank the owners enough. The pod was comfortable and warm and very well equipped. It is in a delightful spot with a village and shop a few yards away and the most beautiful country walks and views and beauty spots all around it. It was a happy and peaceful place to stay, with the possibility of an open fire outside and a sauna also. I will look forward to coming back as we haven't visited Harris and Lewis yet! I loved it and the price per night was less than half of a hotel in Fort William which I shall not review so highly! Chris Trueman

Moonrise microlodge

Liked: Beautiful location, stunning views, watched the sunset from the seaview bench at top of the hill. Quirky little pod, had everything you need and camp fire out front that we toasted marshmallows in. It was perfect for my son, my dog and I for the 3 nights we stayed.

Disliked: WiFi signal wasnt great at all in the pod but to be perfectly honest, having a rest from WiFi was a blessing

From the manager: Thank you for the kind comments. Apologies for the temperamental Wi-Fi, we have since identified and rectified the problem with the booster so it now fully operational.

Wonderful stay. Everything you need to unplug from daily life.

Moonrise microlodge

Liked: Not a young couple but also not a mature couple with 2 dogs. Really enjoyed our stay in the Eco Pod at Glendale in Skye. The location was idyllic. So quiet & beautiful. The only sound you'll hear are the sheep in the fields next to you. Directions were really clear and made the pod easy to find. The pod itself was very clean & had everything you could need to enjoy your stay. Particularly the hot plate. Be it boiling a kettle or cooking your dinner when you can't get the fire to cook your food correctly it was our saviour while we stayed. The midgies were a bit of a nightmare but the lovely gentleman who manages the Pods obviously noticed that it was affecting our stay & provided us with a large fan so that the midgies could be blown away from the porch. It was really helpful. The space outside the pod was great for the dogs. Gave them plenty of space to run around after their morning walks at one of the wonderful tourist attractions on the island. Neist point is only a short drive away & is perfect for anyone who has a reactive dog as there is plenty of space to ensure that you can have as little or as much contact with people/dogs as you like. Finishing our day with the small walk up the hill to the bench with the beach view was fantastic. It let you take in the countryside around you and have a little time to just sit with your thoughts. I will definitely recommend to anyone who asks about it.

Disliked: This isn't a dislike but it might be helpful. The Pod was great but if you have 2 large dogs it might not be the best choice for you. We took our 2 Boxers & we felt the space a little cramped. That's not a criticism. It's our fault for misjudging how much space our dogs take up.

Moonrise microlodge

Liked: Leaving

Disliked: Unfortunately for the cost of the accommodation for 2 nights we felt very disappointed. The smell from the septic tank right outside our door, the most uncomfortable cheap mattress, the tiny shower cubicle, one chair to sit 2 of us around a dining table 🤷🏼

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are so sorry your stay was less than optimal. We have taken on board your comments and have now installed a new waste treatment system which is situated away from the pods and is much better for the environment. Mattresses have been replaced with new memory foam mattresses, an extra chair is supplied and a new booster has been installed so the Wi-Fi is now fully operational.

The pod was immaculate and had everything we needed.

Moonrise microlodge

Liked: Our stay at moonrise was wonderful. A beautifully built timber frame pod with some really nice touches- like the comfy chair. Set in an idyllic location where nature is respected. We had campfires, long walks and even a dip in the river!! We feel very relaxed and will definitely be returning with the pooch next time.

Local attractions

Most people head to Skye for the dramatic scenery, and it’s easy to see why. Ditch the car and take a gentle amble down the road to Loch Pooltiel (20 minutes’ walk), where you can go wild swimming or chill on the shingle beach while keeping a look out for seals and otters. It’s back in the car to reach Talisker Bay Beach (an hour’s drive) and catch a few surfing waves (if conditions are right) or admire the jagged cliffs. Neist Point Lighthouse (15 minutes) is an excellent spot for sea fishing, whale-watching and the outside chance to spot white-tailed eagles, among the UK’s largest, rarest raptors. To learn about Skye history, head for Dunvegan Castle and Gardens (25 minutes), where exhibitions will take you into the realms of Clan MacLeod heritage. The Skye Museum of Island Life (an hour and 15 minutes) gives an insight into traditional croft farming, and you can make a day of it by stopping off at the rugged, multi-peaked Old Man of Storr (an hour and five minutes) on the way back to Glendale.
