General

  • Heated, double-glazed and fully insulated island pods
  • Kettle, microwave and coolbox in all pods
  • Showers, toilets and separate washroom

Callanish Camping is a different camping experience now being introduced to the Islands - we like to call it camping with style.

The camping pods, named Sgadan, Breac and Bradan, have mains power and come fitted with low energy lights, heaters and double socket. They are fully insulated, double-glazed and timber pods manufactured in Scotland.

The pods are also equipped with an electric kettle, microwave and coolbox. There is an additional pod about 200 metres away which houses the showers and toilets and a separate washroom.

Catering is available at the nearby Callanish Visitor Centre during the day.

Take the hassle out of camping with the camping pods - no need to pitch a tent, just walk in for an overnight stay or longer and plan the next adventure.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No unsupervised groups of people under 21 years of age. A small charge of £1 applies for the use of shower (10 minutes).

Beautiful views, friendly staff, unsuitable for the less robust camper 25/09/2018

    Location - simply wonderful.
Reception by Cathy - very warm and friendly.
Proximity to a cup of tea - The Callanish Standing Stones (magical), cafe, gift shop and visitors centre are very close by. They are really nice.
The pods themselves were warm with a kettle and microwave. Another wigwam contained a toilet, a shower and a small wash up area which had a toaster, kettle and plates. Everything was clean.
    We could bring the dog.

    Disliked:

While the WigWams are robust, wind and rain proof and cosy inside, they did not have the same sleeping facilities as other WigWams we have previously stayed in, such as the ones at Gairloch. I am a seasoned camper but have always slept on a good quality airbed which works fine for me. The sleeping areas were platform benches ( similar to others) but the mattresses were thin sleeping mats which felt like sleeping on wood. I slept very poorly because of this. While camping I actually enjoy getting up to go the loo in the early morning, especially when the views are so stunning and everything is peaceful. But getting to the toilet was an ordeal. It does say 200m, which is fine but doesn't say that it is over very rough terrain on a path laid with mats to provide drainage. The car is parked at the toilets. There is a wheelbarrow to transport your gear. I managed all this but my sister has a walking stick and the path to the toilet and car was unmanageable. I don't feel this spoiled our holiday as we love everything Harris and Lewis has to offer but the access to toilets and car would prohibit me from staying at this site again. I think it should be very clear that this site is not suitable for anyone who has any difficulty walking. It may have been a different story had we been able to park closer.

We truly enjoyed the experience of being in a camp pod for the first time, especially since it rained extremely hard during much of our stay. We were impressed as to how clean our pod, the toilet and the wash pod were--that was great and most welcome, since many toilets elsewhere seem to be left unattended. The location was excellent and so very quiet and peaceful that nothing disturbed us. I was especially pleased that brochures about what to see and do in the area were available and we realised we could easily visit the site of where the Lewis chessmen were meant to have been found, details about the Uig museum and also the Lews Castle museum where 6 original chessmen can be viewed--excellent! We visited those 3 sites with pleasure, as well as the nearby stones, of course. Many thanks!

We had never stayed in a pod before and loved this one.
    We liked:
    - the setting, right on a quiet loch with no passing traffic
    - the wheelbarrow for transporting our kit
    - the outside seating space
    - the very comfortable beds
    - the plentiful power sockets
    - the shower and toilet facilities.

    Disliked:

Nothing really but we were glad that we had good, dry weather as the walk to and from our vehicle and the toilet facilities wouldn't be much fun in wet weather.

Nothing but pods themselves quite small so may be too small for some types of travellers. Caution to those with disabilities due to type of site access and distance from toilet/parking area.
