Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Beautiful campsite with a duck pond. Great laundry room, handy bothy to escape the bad weather. Close to Glentrool Visitor Centre via a lovely Kindness Trail lined with painted pebbles.

Disliked Disliked the midges. Unfortunately there are no pubs/restaurants within walking distance, had to drive to Newton Stewart.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch (medium)

Liked Nothing

Disliked Pitches were water logged, no suitable pitches for a trailer tent, not disability friendly as you are not allowed to drive to your pitch. No even ground, absolute swarms of midgies make it impossible to stay. Emailed to complain and have been ignored. Terrible customer service. Also there is no wifi as advertised.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch (medium)

Liked I would advise anyone who has a larger tent not to book here.

Disliked We arrived after paying for electric grass pitch to and requesting that the 2 bookings be pitched together to be told just pitch were you like. There was tents in front of the electric boxes that were not using or paid for them which resulted in myself and niece hook up not reaching any electric. The area on which we pitched ran at a slop and was water logged.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked a small, quiet and comfortable camping site great for children and dogs! We stayed for only 2 nights in a tent. We loved the pond and the family of ducks. Showers and toilets are clean and comfortable. We had no issues at all.

Liked Loved our pitch, which was spacious and quite private, the site was lovely.

Disliked Had family in a rental caravan/lodge, which unfortunately ended up with camper vans directly in front, literally at the end of the balcony.

Local attractions

Here for the hiking? There are some good challenging trails in the Galloway Hills – if you really want to earn your evening pint, make your way up the Merrick, the region’s tallest peak at 875 metres. It’ll take you 20 minutes or so to drive over there. For something a little less muscle-busting, look out for one of the lochs around the Galloway Forest Park: there are 250 of them so plenty to pick from. Take your binoculars when you go, as you may just catch a glimpse of the otters, pine martens, red squirrels, red deer and golden eagles that live around here. If you prefer to take to two wheels, get your tyres pumped for time on the 7Stanes mountain bike trails at Glentrool (five minutes’ drive away) or Kirrochtree (25 minutes). Time to drop that heart rate a bit after all the antics? Swing by the Crafty Distillery (15 minutes) or the Bladnoch Distillery (25 minutes) to pick up a bottle of something to sip while you stare up at the stars.
