  • Luxury glamping pods with hot tubs and secure fenced gardens
  • With Galloway views, five minutes’ drive from Glenluce and a shop
  • Dog-friendly; golf 10 minutes’ walk; Stranraer ferry 15 minutes' drive
Dumfries and Galloway camping pods that are both luxurious and dog friendly? What’s not to like? Especially when you learn that The Galloway Steading, five minutes’ drive from peaceful Glenluce in Wigtownshire, has a spectacular rural setting surrounded by gorgeous views and wildlife. What’s more, each pod comes with its very own hot tub and the site has easy access to beach, river and woodland walks – all the better for exercising your four-legged friends. Sleeping up to four guests in a mix of double, bunk and sofa beds, the pods are designed to a very high spec with smart modern kitchens and equally stylish ensuite bathrooms with walk-in showers. Cute design flourishes include soft toys, while cosy sofas and dining tables sit in the open-plan living space, with TVs for lazy evenings and central heating to keep you warm in chillier weather. Outside, your amenities are enclosed pet-friendly gardens, seating areas and firepits, all with a splendid backdrop of hills in Galloway Forest Park. Anything else you need? Source basics from the small shop in Glenluce, or head for supermarkets in Stranraer (15 minutes’ drive) if you’re needing a bigger stock up.

Local attractions

Keen golfers will be chuffed to learn they can play 18 holes a mere 10 minutes’ walk away from the pods, and there’s another challenging course at Newton Stewart (25 minutes). Garden-lovers can get their fair share of greenery and planting ideas at Castle Kennedy Gardens or Glenwhan Gardens and Tearoom (both 10 minutes’ drive). The lauded ‘book toun’ of Wigtown (half an hour) has – as its nickname suggests – plenty of antiquarian book shops to browse, and it’s also a gateway to the remote Machars peninsula. Spend a day here exploring secluded seaside villages like Whithorn (35 minutes) or walking along sandy canine-friendly beaches like Monreith (25 minutes) and Garlieston (35 minutes). You can stare out across the Irish Sea from another peninsula when visiting the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse Visitor Centre (40 minutes) at Scotland’s most southerly point. It’s a great base for bracing walks along the clifftops, and if you have a head for heights you can clamber up to the lighthouse tower. If you’re heading off on Irish adventures, the Belfast ferry terminal is at Stranraer (15 minutes).
