Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Well staffed site. Washing and toilet facilities were very good and cleaned regularly. Fantastic views from the pitch we were on. We visited out of school holidays so the site was pleasant and not too busy. A real bonus that they do not charge extra for using an awning. Unlike most other greedy sites.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely clean site. Stayed in our small motorhome, hardstanding, had water, electric hook up and tv at our pitch as was at all pitches. Little stream at back of pitches so had nice evening water noise during stay. Toilet block is very clean, showers good and hot with good pressure. Area for washing dishes, grey waste, toilet etc Good little shop as you come into the site. Lively little cove with shell beach, just watch the walk going down to it, steep. Site amenities were good when stayed beginning of Sept. Plenty of things still on for kids. Evening entertainment programmes. Found the restaurant was well priced and the food was plentiful and tasty. You order at the bar on screens and they bring it to your numbered table. Was nice to sit outside on the balcony and look out to the sea with a wee cocktail. Staff we found were all polite and helpful so big plus on that. WiFi is available at the pitches but didn't use it as our phones had loads of data. It's a cost to use but easy to set up. Crows are nesting in the trees at the pitches, you will hear them first thing in the morning and I'm sure there are hundreds of them lol Stayed 2 nights and will come again.

Disliked: To be honest we didn't find anything to complain about apart from the walk up the hill to the shop, our legs felt it lol

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Stayed in circular touring pitches, in the middle of the site. So, Position of pitches, proximity to facilities, friendly staff. Amazing little beach.the staff were constantly cleaning and looking after the site. It was kept clean and tidy at all times. Great dog walk area. Great position for exploring the area. All in all a great site.

Disliked: Some of the seasonal pitches on the touring site were a bit untidy and ‘tatty looking’ Makeshift fencing round and some a bit scruffy looking and there were one or two in each section so it made the whole area look a bit run down. Some pitches are a bit uneven and you have to put the awing landside which is a shame as people sat the other side of their caravans for the view and the sun. There is always one or two who do not pick up after their dogs!

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The camping facilities are great, spotless toilets and showers and water and electricity point at each pitch. The holiday park has loads to do and evening entertainment. The location is fab, gorgeous views and lovely beach.

Disliked: The crows woke me at 5am first morning but didn't disturb me by the second night.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Clean site considering the challenging weather conditions. Kids entertainment very good. Good on site shop.

Disliked: Auchenlarie is on a very busy main road that serves Stranraer port. Large goods vehicles use this road through the night and hence it can get very noisy. Also the crows that roast in the trees do get noisy early and late in the day.

Recommend to friends Visit again

Very good family site and plenty to do come rain or shine.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Site facilities were all clean and well maintained and the staff were helpful and polite. The grass electric hook up pitch that we were on was flat as requested and not far from the toilet/shower block. There was a well stocked shop on site and a takeaway and restaurant which was a godsend as the weather wasn’t great. The kids loved the pool and soft play area which was included in the fee for the site. There was a good outdoor play area and MUGA pitch although these were some way from the grass tent pitches.

Disliked: No real dislikes but nice to haves would be: I) more hooks for hanging up clothes in the showers (which were lovely and warm and had continuous water flow) . 2) For men, a sink that you could fill with water for shaving. 3) An area where adults could relax with an alcoholic drink within viewing distance of a children play area, e.g. with settees .

Local attractions

Trad fans, pop fans, bibliophiles and foodies can indulge their passions easily in the area: many local pubs have regular traditional music sessions and the region has a good handful of festivals of all flavours including the Wigtown Book Festival and Stranraer Oyster Festival. On the music front, tap your foot at the Galloway and Portpatrick folk festivals, both easy to get to from Auchenlarie, or go along to one of the folk clubs which meet regularly in Dalbeattie and Stranraer. By day, dander around the rest of Dumfries and Galloway for a range of things to do like coastal strolling around Wigtown and Luce Bay, fishing, championship golf courses and blossoming at the county’s public gardens and their exotic specimens flourishing in Galloway’s mild climate. Logan Botanic Garden on the Rhins of Galloway is filled with southern hemisphere plants and palm trees; take a hike up the park’s hill afterwards for views to take your breath away over the Rhins to the Galloway Hills. Red deer, wild goats and red kites are a few sights to see in nearby Galloway Forest Park to the north of Auchenlarie, Britain’s biggest forest park at 300 square miles, and with forest trails, lochside cycle paths, wildlife centres, horse-riding and mountain biking all to hand/hoof. The 24-mile Red Kite Trail around Loch Ken is level enough for cycling and has six outdoor viewing points, four hides and a visitor centre with CCTV open in summer; if you’d like to look skywards by night, Galloway Forest Park is the only Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only four in the world. Dazzle your little darlings at the award-winning Creetown Gem Rock Museum, a jewel of an attraction near Newton Stuart with gemstones, crystals, rocks and fossils on display, interactive exhibits and the glow of the Crystal Cave. It’s one of several museums in Dumfries and Galloway including the Museum Newton Stewart, telling the history of the county, and the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries, telling the story of the bard. To see historical sights on site, there are castles, abbeys and vintage buildings all around, such as Cardoness, Carsluith and Threave castles, Dundrennan Abbey, the motes of Mark and Urr, and towers at Drumcoltran and Orchardton.
