  • Luxury glamping pods on a scenic stretch of farmland
  • A 20-minute drive from Stirling and 50 minutes from Glasgow
  • Hot tubs, private decking and spectacular views
For stays in the land of castles, spectacular scenery and golf, you can’t go far wrong with getaways to Longriggs Lodges, a family-friendly site on the outskirts of Coalsnaughton village and five minutes’ drive from Tillicoultry in Clackmannanshire. In a fenced-off grassy area alongside a well-maintained farm track, this rural spot is relatively secluded, but remains easy to get to. This is handy for lugging luggage to and fro, but also means a wealth of cycle tracks and woodland walks are within easy reach. If you'd rather wander on foot, it’s also just a few minutes’ walk across fields to the nearby Gartmorn Dam and Country Park. All the walking round here may work up hefty appetites, so take another into Coalsnaughton (about 10 minutes’ stroll) to the local farm shop and café to stock up on ingredients, then head back to base to prepare some eats in private kitchens or to heat up coals for the barbecue. A welcome pack is provided on arrival too, and pods are stocked with milk, bread, butter, tea and coffee. Hungers satisfied, it’s time to lounge about and unwind. Each pod has a private deck with a hot tub that fits five adults, so clamber in for a soak and take in the spectacular views from site towards the Ochil Hills.

Local attractions

Start off stays with low-energy days of activity, from swinging a club around at Alloa Golf Club (five minutes’ drive away) to leisurely strolls about the Cowden Japanese Gardens or up to the 15th-century Castle Campbell and its gardens (both 15 minutes). When something busier appeals, it’s 20 minutes to Stirling, where visits to the Old Town Jail, art galleries, museums and (during well-timed stays) the Stirling Highland Games come highly recommended. If time is limited, and crossing musts off lists is the priority, make sure to visit Stirling Castle and the spectacular Wallace Monument. There are plenty of other icons of Scottish tourism within reach too, including the Kelpies, the Falkirk Wheel, the famed Pineapple and Blair Drummond Safari Park, all of which are within around half an hour. In terms of city days, guests here have lots of choice. It’s 45 minutes from base to Perth (home of the famed Palace of Scone), 50 minutes to Glasgow (and its art museums, stadiums, science centres and gardens), and a little over an hour to capital city Edinburgh. Fancy burning a hole in wallets? As well as shopping in Perth, Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh, guests can opt for something closer to home base: Affinity Sterling Mills outlet shopping is a 20-minute walk away (or a five-minute drive) in Tillicoultry, and has a host of high-street stores to choose from.
