Eyemouth Sea Aire: Visitor image of the large level area, with electric hook up, along with other services (photo added by manager on 10/10/2022)

General

  • Self-service motorhome stop just off the A1 in seaside Eyemouth
  • A 20-minute drive to Manderston House, and 30 minutes to Holy Island
  • Next to a pub with live music at weekends

Fishing trips, rockpooling and clambering along coastal paths… that’s just the appetiser at Eyemouth Sea Aire, just off the A1 and close to the England and Scotland border. It’s a cosy stop for motorhomes here, with just a small number of pitches in a residential beach-side location. Useful additions at this family-run park include a water point and black and grey water disposal.

Eyemouth is a down-to-earth fishing village with a beach, swimming pool and kids’ play areas. It’s a handy overnight stop on the drive northwards, and you can stock up with supplies in the local butchers, bakers and grocery stores as well as sometimes buy fish straight from the dock.

Those of you who are planning on hanging around a while will find masses and masses for the family to do. Book fishing charters and high-adrenaline rib tours of the coastline, walk the coastal path to Berwick-on-Tweed or feed the greedy seals that hang out daily in the fishing harbour.

There’s a golf links course within strolling distance of the pitches (five minutes’ walk) and plenty of majestic old houses to nose around. There's also a lively pub right next door to the pitches, so you’ll never be bored of an evening.

The aire is in a very good location, it's a very short walk to the beautiful beach and to shops, restaurants and the pool. For us, the location is what makes it worth a visit.

    Disliked:

At £20, I feel it is a bit over priced. I could stay on some campsites for that, or very little more. It is just a yard with a gravel surface and the view is of a high brick wall.

Nice town and good stopover with water and disposal point
Loved walking around the port and popping into one of the many restaurants. Great spot

    Disliked:

Probably not a good idea to stay on a weekend when the pub that backs on to the aire has bands / karaoke on
Very loud until midnight maybe we should have joined them but just not expecting the volume levels, feel sorry for the local residents

Facilities were fine for an Aire; water / chemical waste / grey waste / hook-up. Central to the town, easy access for shops, bars, restaurants etc. Virtually on the coastal walk route so ideal for what we wanted - we were walking to St Abb's Head. We noted the comments from others about the bar next to the site. Not a problem when we stayed, a Monday and a Tuesday night, some noise early on but nothing after about 10pm.

    Disliked:

The only issue we experienced was on arrival (about 4.45pm) there were already 4 vans parked, supposedly the maximum. We were able to squeeze in by reversing in. We'd booked and paid in advance, and in the morning one of the owners of the other vans stated when they'd arrived they saw there was a space and hence went in. If we'd not been able to park then it would have meant contacting the owner to sort things out, so be aware even if you book there may be an issue with getting a space. And it is a tight entrance, so don't be tempted to take a van longer than the recommended size!

Location right near beach and town centre. Hookup if required, drinking water, and toilet empty facilities.

Slight noise audible from the pub’s extractor (or cooling) fan. Not a major issue but it was noticeable when going to sleep

Electricity, close the beach and harbour. Easy to book and therefore a guaranteed space. Grey and chemical disposal on site and fresh water available. Secluded considering it was in town and quiet with no road noise (although as I've said below we think it could be noisy at night in the summer months if there's anything on at the bar next door). Perfect for walking the dog on the beach! Clean, level hardstanding pitches.

    Disliked:

Quiet whilst we were there but think it could be a little noisy in the summer being so close to the pub. We could hear the hum of the chiller at times although it never woke us up. Could be a little tight with bigger vans.

Local attractions

With the beach, fishing charters and golf all within five minutes’ walk or drive of Eyemouth Sea Aire, you’ll have plenty of chances to soak in the fresh sea air. There’s more of that – and seabird colonies such as kittiwakes, razorbills and fulmars – around the coastal St Abb's Head National Nature Reserve (10 minutes’ drive)…

Holy Island (30 minutes) is another of those spectacular coastal places. Just check ahead for the tide times, as you’ll have to cross over the causeway at low tide to reach this island’s priory, castle and café selection.

Now, for some more ruins and old places… it’s an imposing sight at Hailes Castle (40 minutes) on the river Tyne. You could meddle in some medieval architecture at Dryburgh Abbey (an hour), have a brew in a stately Edwardian setting at Manderston House (20 minutes) or dabble in some croquet, archery or clay pigeon shooting on the 14th-century Duns Castle Estate (30 minutes).

With East Links Family Park (30 minutes) around to entertain the kids with animals and go-karting sessions, there’s much to bring your active side out.

Must see

  • Berwick-upon-Tweed Barracks & Main Guard (7.9 miles)
  • Berwick-upon-Tweed Museum and Art Gallery (7.9 miles)
  • Berwick-upon-Tweed Castle & Ramparts (8.2 miles)
