  • Adults-only luxury glamping pods in the gorgeous Angus Glens
  • Both Cairngorms hiking and Glenshee skiing within a 40-minute drive
  • Private hot tub and ensuite for each pod; coffee shop on site
Gorgeous scenery and equally gorgeous pods… that’s the setup at Peel Farm, in the stunning Angus Glens above the River Isla Gorge and about 15 minutes’ drive from Kirriemuir (the birthplace of J M Barrie, fact fans). This is a truly luxurious place, with a highlight being the private woodfired/gas-fired hot tub outside each pod. It’s a very peaceful spot too: reserved for adults only, it’s well set up for quiet couples’ breaks. Each pod is kitted out with its own ensuite facilities, plus a TV with Netflix, a fridge and tea- and coffee-making facilities. With fairy lights thrown in for a bit of atmosphere, that should be pretty much everything you need for a nice, cosy break. Shops, pubs and takeaways are all available in Kirriemuir, but if you don’t fancy travelling that far you can head to the coffee shop on site, which is open for breakfast each morning and also serves afternoon teas (you’ll need to book ahead for these). Elsewhere around the site there’s also a gift shop and a nature trail – and plenty of stunning views to take in from various corners. If you’d like to see more of the splendid scenery, the obvious choice is to set off for the nearby Cairngorms National Park (40 minutes’ drive); try walks from Glenclova if you need something to aim for. That said, other options might include a walk to Reekie Linn waterfall (a mile away from the site), a bit of skiing at Glenshee (40 minutes) or a game at one of the five golf courses within a 20-minute drive.

Local attractions

Said to have inspired Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, Glamis Castle (25 minutes’ drive) has a long history of royal guests, from James V to Queen Elizabeth II. You too can feel like royalty as you wander through the elegant Italian Garden or the Walled Garden, or you can check out the wooden sculptures on the Macbeth Trail. From Glamis Castle, it’s about half a mile to the Gin Bothy Experience, where you can take part in a tasting of the juniper-based spirit produced here and, of course, purchase bottles of the stuff. They also make a hipflask range so you can have a tipple as you roam the surrounding hills. Dundee (40 minutes) has a handful of excellent attractions, starting with V&A Dundee, housing rotating exhibitions in a striking building on the River Tay. The museum stands next to RRS Discovery, a ship with displays on Antarctic explorations, and a short distance from the 19th-century HMS Unicorn.

Chestnut camping pod (hot tub, premium)

Liked POD was great, warm or cool whatever you needed, spacious and the area was very quiet.
The hot tub was lovely so so so warm and good size too 5”11 and could lie flat although do not recommend lol.
Didn’t get bothered once was left alone to our selves!

Disliked Bed was a bit firm and the tub cover is a bit awkward and heavy.
The road to the pods was awful with pot holes for the price paid it would be nice to not go home with punctures!

Liked We loved the location of the pod and of course the hottub. Also loved the fairy lights, thought they were a very nice touch.
