  • Small, peaceful motorhome aire on the edge of Kirriemuir
  • Half an hour's drive to Dundee or the Cairngorms National Park
  • Part of a working farm with café, dog park and equestrian centre
Touring Scotland in a campervan or motorhome and looking for a low-key place to stay? Not a fully fledged campsite, just a nice simple spot in which to sleep for a night or two? Take a look at Pathhead Farm, which hosts just a handful of touring vehicles at its aire on the edge of Kirriemuir in Angus. This peaceful spot is part of a working farm and equestrian centre that’s just a short walk from the town’s shops, places to eat and other amenities. It’s also got a café and a secure dog park on site, so you can have a tasty coffee and cake and let your dog have a good run around while you’re here. Book a spot here and you’ll be parking up on simple but level and well-kept hardstanding pitches that cater for self-contained vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. Each pitch has an optional electric hook-up along with access to fresh water. A barbecue area and picnic tables are provided to help you with your meals, but there are no guest toilets or showers. With good access to the A90 and Dundee in one direction and routes into the Cairngorms National Park in the other, this site makes a handy base for exploring this part of Scotland. Coast, city and countryside outings are all nearby, and there’s plenty of scope to spend time walking or cycling along nearby trails and lanes too.

Local attractions

The Angus Glens area is popular with walkers and cyclists, and the farm’s surroundings are suitably supplied with a good network of walking and bike trails through farmland with some lovely views. For more dramatic landscapes, head north to the Cairngorms National Park or south to the rugged coastline around Arbroath – both are around a half-hour drive away. For those travelling with kids, Kirriemuir is home to the Peter Pan Park (five minutes’ drive), which has a large and popular play area alongside J M Barrie’s Birthplace. There’s also a good play area at Forfar Loch Country Park (10 minutes), along with a lakeside trail and a wildlife garden. The grand Glamis Castle (10 minutes) is likely to capture the attention of all ages with its stories from across several centuries – take a house tour, wander through the gardens or look out for events including live music and whisky tastings. Dundee (half an hour) should be on your radar too – the city is home to world-class galleries like the V&A Dundee and Dundee Contemporary Arts as well as maritime attractions including HMS Unicorn.
