  • Quiet and scenic campsite in Britain's largest national park
  • A mile from Strathdon; an hour and a quarter by road from Aberdeen
  • Small on-site shop and animal petting corner
For spectacular scenery, there's nothing quite like a stint in the Cairngorms National Park. They do rugged and remote rather well in this part of Scotland – the area is home to a quarter of the UK's rare and endangered species, four of its five highest mountains and over 60 separate lochs. Exploring all of the above day after day is tiring work, so you'll want to find somewhere to rest up and relax after gallivanting through the Highlands. Enter Cairngorms Glamping, a low-key but scenic site in a quiet corner of Aberdeenshire. All plots here come with their own water and power supply and have an excellent outlook over the neighbouring countryside. There's plenty of space to spread out over the well-kept grounds, plus a small on-site shop where you can pick up local butcher/baker goods and locally made gifts. Cairngorms Glamping also has an animal petting corner, where friendly creatures like pygmy goats, alpacas and a donkey look forward to meeting you. Up at the top of a hill, there's also a naturally occurring pond, so dragonflies, ducks and other wildlife can be spotted too. Cairngorms Glamping is roughly a mile from the village of Strathdon, which is home to a small but well-stocked supermarket.

Electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: Location was amazing 👏

Disliked: Got stuck on the pitch as ground too soft. Lovely owner helped us out. Gave us a hard pitch but with view of a garage and disused caravans. Facilities were terrible.

From the manager: Hi yes they got stuck and after getting them unstuck we allowed them to park down beside the farm area as the weather was atrocious as for the toilets they are functional and clean we can't account for the weather and are always trying to improve.

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked: A well maintained site set in a beautiful location - a perfect place to explore the Cairngorms! There were animals all around (wild and farm) and play equipment for children. Very dog friendly. The shower was warm and clean and we loved the added bonus of having the option of a breakfast bap in the morning. Hosts were very friendly and available for any questions we had.

Electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: Truly one in a million campsite! Amazing remote location, surrounded by forests, rivers and snowy mountains in the distance. My son and I were travelling in our little camper at the beginning of March (still cold!), we had an electric pitch in a great flat field, well looked after. Everything was close to hand, toilet & shower was heated and clean and lovely hot water!! Hosts were so friendly and accommodating, we felt like we were staying as family. The highlight was definitely the tame animals that my son could feed everyday. He was able to hold a lamb and spend time with the pigmy goats, horses, sheep, alpacas and lovely Jimmy the donkey.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Local attractions

Looking to lounge about locally? Goodbrand and Ross gift shop and restaurant is a good place to grab a bite to eat or buy a few presents for folk back at home, while the Lonach Highland Gathering and Games take place annually a couple of miles to the north. For further typically Scottish attractions, try visiting one of the many distilleries in the area; the closest is roughly 30 minutes away. The Cairngorms is also uncommonly rich in castles, including the well-preserved ruins of Kildrummy Castle (20 minutes) and gorgeous 17th-century Braemar Castle (40 minutes). Balmoral (30 minutes), the long-term summer residence of the British royal family, will also be high up on the list of those seeking impressive architecture, art and antiques. Your hosts also recommend taking the time to drive out to Landmark Forest Adventure Park (an hour), a kid-oriented spot with a climbing wall, high ropes course, maze and rollercoaster. You might also like to drive east to the Grampian Transport Museum's top collection of exhibits (35 minutes), or to carry on all the way down to the North Sea coast at Aberdeen (an hour and a quarter).
