Liked: The peace and quiet, the wonderful scenery and the welcome from the owners
Disliked: The only the we found was that it was a bit out of the way to find. But once there it was brilliant

From the manager: Thank you Mary for a lovely review- it is much appreciated! We're definitely out of the way.... no main roads adjacent to the site etc, but it would be nice if Aberdeenshire Council allowed a few more directional signs than just the one! Thank you for staying with us and maybe see you again. In the meantime, we wish you ongoing safe travels in the future!. J&A

Liked: Its an interesting site, yes it might not be all modern like some but it was lovely. Some mght say the fascilities might be dated but there is nothing wrong with them they have lovely personal touches, they were clean and everything worked, what more do you need? Their dog field was a godsend for our dog, the location is great, quite with stunning views, I will certainly stay here again if we are ever up this way again.

Liked: Peaceful, beautiful location. Friendly and helpful owner. Large pitches on grass in great condition. Great facilities, including clean, roomy showers with plenty room to dress without getting your clothes wet on the floor like some cramped cubicles. Little extras like providing a dressing table in the ladies for doing hair, family shower room, pavillion with games room, TV, books etc. Lots of information on local area. Handmade jewellery and trinkets available to buy. Fresh farm eggs. Also own make of cleaning products available. Doggy friendly site with dedicated exercise area. Borrow room if you've forgotten anything. Well equipped campers kitchen. Quirky information notes on walls around the site which made us smile.
Disliked: Nothing at all!

Liked: Dog area friendly owners and the grass was green
Disliked: Everything to be honest. Showers not big enough the hot water is 5min max washer dryer over priced games room stank. Needs to be gone and a shop and maybe a takeout food with area outside would be alot better. Shower floors are a slip hazard. It is very basic and no where near what I would expect of a 9.8 review rating from 9.8 from 2020 to 2023. Like making a 2 star hotel a 5 star. Am being honest it's my opinion. Way off the mark from what is expected. With reviews of 9.8 sorry. This site has huge potential it's just not what I thought it would be

From the manager: The shower rooms are wet rooms and measure approx 6' x 5' . There is a mat provided if you wish to use it in the shower. Hot water is available 24/7 and power showers are unlimited. The Pavilion does not 'stink' Laundry charges are half the price of the local laundrette. There are cooking facilities in the campsite kitchen, with microwave, toaster, kettles etc. A shop and takeaway with an 'outside area' is not a viable option for our style of campsite. Shops, restaurants, and takeaways are available in the local area, within easy travelling distance. We do recommend that visitors, in addition to reading good reviews and taking note of any high ratings, check to ensure the campsite offers the facilities and experiences desired for your holiday or business trip. We cannot be held responsible for "not offering what I thought it would be". J&A

Liked: Absolutely love the peace quiet on the campsite. Anna has been incredibly helpful and went out of her way to give us a helping hand. The facilities are nice and we really enjoy the family area in the wooden hut.
Disliked: Could do with a lick of paint as nothing has been updated since we've visited the site 2 years ago.

From the manager: Thank you Robert for your excellent review- very much appreciated and we hope to see you again in the future! Anna is a true superstar! (Says I John B) Ref 'lick of paint'... Since you were last here, we have installed new ceilings in the toilet block and repainted the interior- not sure if we had reroofed & repainted the interior of the Pavilion at that time but we had to renovate the Pavilion after winter storms destroyed it, so it has had a full interior repaint and some structural repairs. The toilet block- well exterior-wise, we managed to paint all the doors and frameworks, but we have pressure washed the walls in anticipation of dryer warmer weather to enable us to get this back to a perfect finish. Weather permitting, this is scheduled for the next few weeks & ongoing. We have the paint and are ready to go! The exterior of the Pavilion is a restoration project on our quirky listed building which is a labour of love and available finance dependant! J&A

Liked: Spotless, clean site, well maintained, very peaceful. Toilets were very clean and well stocked. I loved the fact that the ladies toilet and shower block had the dressing table with mirrors and hairdryer. The pavilion was very clean and tidy and was a pleasant change on a touring site. There was an excellent supply of loaner items in the loan room. The wash and kitchen facilities were again well stocked with lots of kitchen appliances. Dog walking field was well laid out and well maintained. Good Wi-Fi Anna and John were very friendly and helpful and we look forward to coming back.
Disliked: Nothing

Liked: We stayed overnight onroute to the NC500. It was a pleasant quiet stop to relax in preparation for the next leg of our journey. The site was well presented and the owners were welcoming and informative. The hook up and WiFi worked without any problems and the facilities suited our needs. This is a hidden gem for those who want to be away from the hustle and bustle but near enough to places to visit.
Disliked: An Observation only: The site has no hard stands and so shoes for wet weather may be required.
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review, it is much appreciated! We hope you travel on to have an enjoyable trip around the NC500- the scenery is beautiful! A less known circuit is the NE250, which takes in the Cairngorms, and is slightly quieter in the main holiday season, so worth considering if and when in the area again! Reference hard standing- we have a serviced hard standing pitch adjacent to the Pavilion. Elsewhere, we keep the grass well-trimmed for visitors, but in the early part of the year, we keep it a little longer to protect it and help it get a good start to last the full season. Although the East Coast of Scotland is the driest part of the Country, as you say, footwear suitable for the Season is advisable! We are open all year and do see snow at times in the Winter months! Liked: Sheltered from the wind
Disliked: Poor old toilets and showers

From the manager: Welcome to the 1% club Claire! We're sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at Planet Balthangie, however, we understand our style is not for everyone. The 'tired old toilets' are sometimes misunderstood by the odd visitor- We create the 1950's feel here, albeit with a few mod cons such as the power showers, wet rooms and hairdryers supplied. Facilities include our fully serviced pitches, farm walks, secure dog exercise area, our famous 1st World War Pavilion, with TV lounge, library area, pool, table tennis, table football, and our kitchen- kitted out with microwave, kettles, toaster and washing machine & tumble dryer- all inclusive for only £28 a night.(ex laundry costs of course, but without those annoying 'extra' charges for awnings, dogs and/or children etc). All that said, we will continue to strive to provide the best service and welcome to all our guests both now and in the future! Although we'll never see you again here, we wish you both safe travels and enjoyable stays elsewhere in the future. :) J&A
