Set on raised wooden decking – all the better to enjoy those gorgeous rural Aberdeenshire views – Clochforbie Yurts is a thoroughly luxurious glamping site near the rural town of Turriff (15 minutes’ drive).
The dog-friendly accommodation here is in sturdy Mongolian yurts, all strikingly decorated in vibrant colours and with plenty of home comforts to make your holiday go with a swing. They come with kitchens kitted out with a fridge, toaster, kettle, cooker and microwave, a seating area by the window (those views again…) and a generous welcome pack with tea, coffee, sugar and hot chocolate – plus a pint of milk and some biscuits so you can have a restorative cuppa and a snack on arrival.
Sleeping arrangements include a king-size and sofa bed with all bedding provided, and the temperature should always be comfortable no matter what the weather does, as there’s a fan for hot days and an electric fire for chillier moments. Smart shower rooms adjoin each yurt, thoughtfully supplied with shampoo, body wash, soap, toilet roll and towels.
Outside on the decking, you can sink into a private hot tub and take in more of those lovely views with a glass of something chilled in hand (perhaps while someone else tends the barbecue) – from that spot you can keep an eye on the kids as they have a run around or play in the treehouse. If you feel like having a lazy day, take your pick of a selection of DVDs to play on the TV.

Local attractions
Birders, grab the binoculars and head for Troup Head Nature Reserve (15 minutes' drive), the only gannet colony on mainland Britain. While you’re the, look out for comical puffins and keep your eye on the North Sea for sightings of minke whales or dolphins. Wildlife of a different sort can be found in Macduff Marine Aquarium (15 minutes), with local marine life on display along with fish-feeding shows.
Need some physical action? Get sporty on the scenic seaside course at Duff House Royal Golf Club (20 minutes) or Royal Tarlair Golf Club (10 minutes), take a dip in the tidal swimming pools at Tarlair beach (15 minutes) or get out on the Moray Firth at Sandend Bay to have a go at paddleboarding or surfing (gear can be hired there too).
If lazing on the beach is more your style, make up a picnic to eat on the sheltered inlet at Cullykhan (15 minutes), or head for crescent-shaped Aberdour beach (20 minutes) and explore the sandstone arches and sea caves at the eastern end of the shingle.
