  • Basic, dog-friendly motorhome and campervan stopover
  • Within walking distance of Fraserburgh’s beach and harbour
  • Access to the Moray Coast Trail and North East 250; firepit on site
Opposite the Moray Firth, which has a colony of seals in the summer and the northern lights under the right conditions in the winter, Glenbuchty Stopover Motorhome Aire is a basic stopover with sea views, great for a night or two. Suitable for motorhomes and campervans with an on-board toilet, the hardstanding pitches have access to the Moray Coast Trail and the North East 250 for longer hikes or road trips. There are seating areas on the headland and inside the garden walls, as well as a firepit that guests are welcome to make use of. It’s a pet-friendly spot, handily for those walking the Moray Coast Trail with their canine companion. There’s water, recycling bins, seating areas and black waste disposal, and any vehicles adapted for sleeping are welcome, just as long as they have a toilet. The coast is popular with not just hikers, but also visiting minke whales and orcas, as well as a seal colony who live directly opposite the stopover in summer. The friendly aire’s next to a cottage by the sea, just outside of Fraserburgh, which is an easy one and a half-mile walk or a five-minute drive or cycle (there’s a cycling path just opposite). With a supermarket, takeaway and bus stop a quarter of a mile away, the location’s really rather handy. There’s a nice bunch of varied cafés, tearooms and restaurants in Fraserburgh too of course, if you’re channelling your inner foodie. Fraserburgh has a busy shellfish port, harbour, lighthouse (the oldest lighthouse in Scotland, and built on a castle keep). Call by the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, which has a café with a stunning view. The sandy Fraserburgh beach is often blessed with splendid surf (for which there’s a surf school set up). Other spots around Fraserburgh include a golf course, bowling alley and indoor pool.

Liked: Good value for money, owners really friendly and gave us a lots of information about the local area.

Disliked: No general waste bin on site.

From the manager: Glad you found us friendly and our information was useful. Sorry there’s no general waste bins - these are not listed as facilities to expect. We clearly advertise that we provide recycling bins( we are keen to help the environment and lighten your load as best as we can). Unfortunately if we added general waste we would not be able to maintain our fantastic £5 a night fee due to waste removal charges.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: First I'd like to say the owners are delightful and make you very welcome. We stayed for 4 nights and found no problems whatsoever. It's a good base for touring and a safe overnight park up. I've read some previous reviews and God knows what they expected for a fiver, We have stayed at similar stopovers that have cost £15 and £20 so this is a bargain. I would recommend this stopover to anyone, to save disappointment, read what's on the tin first. Good luck to the owners, no doubt we will see you again

Disliked: Nothing.

Non-electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Lovely people, very knowledgeable about the area.

Disliked: Sadly not as described. There was a main road adjacent to the aire, with constant 24 hr noise and vehicles travelling at speed. CDP was very basic. no tap for rinsing out, just a 2 ltr plastic bottle of water. Sadly not what we were expecting from a Campra accredited Aire

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are described as a basic stopover and clearly by a road as our address in on the B9031. This is a B road, not a ‘main’ road and the traffic is certainly not 24 hours continuous as we are in fairly remote NE Scotland. However, there is traffic noise which is one reason why we charge just £5 a van for an overnight stopover providing you with a legal and insured place to stay, providing water and recycling facilities and a gorgeous sea view. The CDP is not part of the facilities advertised on PitchUp. You chose to make use of this during your stay. As we are not on mains sewerage, being in a remote location, our CDP is a small tank to help prevent dirty Motorhoming by providing a waste point for guests and drop in users. The tank costs a large amount to be emptied and our charge per use is at cost, nonprofit. As such if a hose is used to swill out the cassette, double the liquid is added, meaning it is actually costing us for you to empty your cassette. Therefore we provide a small container to allow a reasonable rinse, which is also far more eco friendly rather than wasting water rinsing unnecessarily, and this is kept separate from any drinking water to avoid contamination. We have been visited by CAMpRA and they praise us for the efforts we make to help promote responsible motorhoming and we’re awarded the CAMpRA Aire of the Year last year. I’d suggest it sounds like basic facilities are not for you and perhaps a campsite with full facilities and higher prices would suit your needs far better. I’m sorry that at £5 for your stay we didn’t live up to your expectations. I’m also sorry you felt the need to write this as your review rather than speak to us at the time as we would have been happy to help where we could.

Non-electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Owners very friendly and accommodating. Happy to re-freeze our ice blocks.

Disliked: Right next to main road.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are sorry to hear you didn't like our location that is convenient to the local town, with sea views and its own piece of headland looking over a seal colony. We are a roadside stopover so unfortunately yes we are beside a road, but the traffic quietens overnight. A simple check of our location before booking would have shown you this. We are sad that our service was only 6/10 for an Aire - i.e. overnight parking not a campsite - despite us going beyond the norm and freezing your ice blocks and allowing you to run a generator against our usual policy for a couple of minutes so you could microwave your tea, and spending our time giving you a friendly welcome to the area. We are an Aire for self-contained motorhomes & campervans. Therefore we do not offer campsite facilities like toilets and showers and this is clear in our description. We do offer the essentials of water, plus recycling bins and if needed cassette waste emptying, which unlike most sites we do not roll into our nightly charge as standard. We've added seating areas and a firepit so find your 4/10 for facilities unfair. I will ensure I polish the gravel in future since you have marked us down on cleanliness and we are a hardstanding parking area. Value for money - we charge £5 a night per van for a safe, legal place to park, where you can recycle your rubbish and fill up with water. I struggle to see how you think that is only worth 4/10. Good luck on finding better value. Safe travels

Non-electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Wonderful location. We sat opposite the Aire watching and listening to the seals basking in the sun. The hosts were very knowledgeable and helpful. Great big Asda 10 minutes away that sells everything. Fraserburgh has lovely seafood shops if you like and is a 30 minute walk to harbour. The aire is basic reflected in the very reasonable price we used the benches for eating.Would definitely stop again.
