Hardstanding motorhome pitch

  • Motorhome/campervan pitches outside a friendly Co.Kilkenny pub
  • Licketstown 20 minutes' walk away; 15 mins' drive to Waterford city
  • Great-value food available on site; soft play centre next door
Which of you is going to drive home after you’ve had a good feed – and perhaps a drink or few – at Paddy’s Bar? Well, no one… because this is a pub where you can park your campervan or motorhome outside and dispense with any arguments about whose turn it is to be designated driver. This isn’t a campsite as such, so it’s not suitable for caravans or tents. Motorhomes and campervans, however, are welcome to park up here, and will have access to basic facilities including drinking water and pub toilets. The pub is open for food from Thursday to Monday (closed Tuesday and Wednesday), with a good-value menu that focuses on local produce as much as possible. There’s a pool table for a bit of entertainment too, and a soft play centre next door where the kids can let off a bit of steam. The portions at the pub are known for being generous, so you’ll want to work up an appetite – perhaps with a walk to Licketstown (the oldest village in Ireland) from the site, or a hike elsewhere in the Co. Kilkenny countryside. Waterford city is close by too (15 minutes’ drive) or you can head up the motorway and get to Kilkenny city in a little over half an hour. Both cities have plenty of places to pick up food (for your breakfasts or picnics perhaps), but it’s handy to know there’s also a good village shop about a mile from the pub.

Non-electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Mainly level site to the rear of the pub. No issue with access. Friendly staff and a cracking pint of Guinness. Food was good and reasonably priced. Quiet overnight.

It's a pub car park... you get what it says on the tin...

Non-electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked The parking spot offers fresh water and a waste water area. The pub was open and it was nice to have a drink inside. It‘s quite close to the road but the village is so small, it can feel you a bit spooky (perfect fo this season).

Easy to find and lovely food.

Local attractions

The area around the pub holds all sorts of historic interest, including the traditional cottages of Licketstown (two minutes’ drive/ 20 minutes’ walk), 800 years of history at Curraghmore House & Gardens (25 minutes’ drive) and ancient sites like the Knockroe Passage Tomb (half an hour). There’s plenty of lovely scenery to explore too – perhaps with a walk on the Tory Hill Loop (15 minutes to the trailhead) or to Poulanassy Waterfall (15 minutes). You could also take a day on the Comeragh Drive, which takes you to some of the top spots along the coast and inland (Dungarvan, 40 minutes away, is a good place to start). After all those rural experiences, head into Waterford city (15 minutes) for a day exploring the Viking Triangle, visiting the Medieval Museum and taking a tour of House of Waterford Crystal. You could also set off from here to bike along some of the Waterford Greenway path, which runs for 46 kilometres along an old railway line.
