If you’re intent on becoming at one with nature, Glenarm Forest (one of the Glens of Atrium, five minutes’ drive) has woodland and lakeside walks. Straidkilly Nature Reserve (10 minutes) is at its best when the bluebells flower in spring, and Glenariff Forest Park (35 minutes) is known for challenging hikes through rocky gorges to tumbling waterfalls. Well-known County Antrim landmarks are close by too; you can tiptoe across the basalt columns at the Giant’s Causeway, or cross the precarious Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge (both just over an hour). Re-enact scenes from ‘Game of Thrones’ under the avenues of trees at The Dark Hedges (55 minutes), or learn about the history of the MacDonnell clan at clifftop Dunluce Castle (about an hour). If you fancy a day in the big city, Belfast is only 40 minutes away by car. End your time in the city singing along to Irish music while enjoying a pint of the black stuff in a Belfast pub.
