Camping pitches for tents

  • Family-friendly camping on a farm 10 minutes’ drive from Ballycastle
  • Giant’s Causeway half an hour’s drive; Cushendun Beach 15 minutes
  • Play area and mini golf on a dark skies site with grazing livestock
Here’s the chance to spend quality time outdoors with loved ones, with loads of space to roam and for kids to play. Want to experience rural life on a working hill farm? The folks running the family campsite at Watertop Farm, 10 minutes’ drive from Ballycastle in County Antrim have been welcoming guests for more than 30 years, so they must be doing something right. They’re doing absolutely everything right as it turns out. For starters: fully serviced pitches with hot showers, a play area, monster slide and mini-golf course for kids, and lots of cuddly livestock to befriend, plus safe off-road paths around the farm for campers to explore. Having said that, if you’re looking for party nights, kids’ clubs and TVs in your tent, this site is possibly not your cup of tea... On the other hand, if you’re after spectacular coast and hill views, and traffic-free hiking or biking routes amid forests, waterfalls and mountains, you’re definitely in the right place. As a couple of added bonuses, you’re pretty much guaranteed quiet nights of sound sleep in the peaceful north-coast countryside, and thanks to the lack of light pollution hereabouts, on clear nights you can spot a gazillion stars twinkling up above.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Peace, Friendly owners, campfires, views, locality- close to the Antrim coast.
The site was well maintained and clean.

Disliked While holidays are about escaping the technology and pull of demands from home. I think having WiFi available, if only localised to a small part of the site to research locations and facilities would have been really useful.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely remote location, pitches were very flat which was great for our tourer, great scenery

Disliked This is no fault of the location, but there is no signal or very poor phone signal and with no WiFi on site makes it difficult for some things

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had a fantastic stay at Watertop Farm Campsite. The location is excellent for visiting Ballycastle and exploring the stunning North Coast of Ireland, with many attractions and scenic spots within easy reach.

One of the highlights was the beautiful walking trails that start directly from the campsite, making it easy to get out and enjoy the surrounding countryside without having to drive anywhere.

The facilities were good throughout our stay. The toilets and showers were clean, well maintained, and clearly looked after regularly. The pitches were also exceptionally generous in size, giving everyone plenty of space and making the site feel relaxed rather than crowded.

Overall, Watertop Farm is a well-run campsite in a great location, with excellent facilities and lots of room to enjoy your stay. We would happily return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a base to explore the North Coast.

Disliked While the arrival board clearly displayed our allocated pitch, we had no direct contact with the host. A personal welcome and a brief introduction to the facilities and local attractions would have made the experience even better and helped guests feel more at home.

From the manager: Thanks for your review
It is important to us that the toilets etc are kept clean so we apologise that they were not up to our usual standard during your stay.

Every pitch has drinking water and grey water drain, this can be on the opposite side to left handed vehicles depending on the orientation. The chemical disposal points are indeed basic compared to some sites- but it's a waste disposal point and it does what it needs to...

We live and work on the farm and we are only a phonecall away when we're not in the yard. There is no reception instead we have self check in and signage. The alternative is to have a short check in timeframe, this way is more flexible for everyone.
I'm not sure if you mean the lane or pitch is difficult for larger vehicles but we have had all shapes and sizes of campervans/lorries/tractors here for many years, though some pitches are tighter for large axel vehicles

The farm is 6 miles from Ballycastle and we do not have wifi, that is stated on our listing so it is unfortunate it negatively impacted your review. I am glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet of this rural area and wish you a pleasant onward journey

Local attractions

Hikers should definitely pack their walking boots; there are a myriad routes close by, ranging from the soaring cliffs at Fair Head (10 minutes’ drive to the car park) to Ronan’s Way along the Glendun River (15 minutes) and the bracing coastal routes in the Causeway Coast National Landscape, taking in the truly spectacular basalt columns of the Giant’s Causeway (half an hour). When a day on the beach beckons, Murlough Bay is a secluded shingle expanse ideal for rock pooling, while Cushendun Beach (both 15 minutes) is a wide sweep of soft sand curling round a bay. The site is also about 40 minutes from the famed surfing beaches around Portrush on Antrim’s north coast. Springing to fame as a ‘Game of Thrones’ location, The Dark Hedges (25 minutes) are a twisting, turning avenue of beech trees planted in the 18th century. Equally stunning and mysterious is Loughareema (half an hour’s walk), a ‘vanishing lake’ that fills and empties at random. It can be reached on foot from the site.
