  • Single yurt-style tent for two at a peaceful Wiltshire farm site
  • A five-minute drive to Royal Wootton Bassett; easy access from the M4
  • Double bed, barbecue and private bathroom facilities included
If you’ve ever dreamed of having a sizeable patch of countryside all to yourself, here’s your chance – Meadow Farm has just the one yurt-style tent in the paddock alongside its farmhouse. That means you’ll have the entire field just for your group (although you may spot visitors like roe deer, muntjac, foxes, hares and pheasants from time to time…) It’s all about peace and quiet here – the farm is about half a mile from the nearest public road and your yurt is surrounded by grass pretty much as far as the eye can see. Your views over the Wiltshire countryside also take in the ridgeway at Broad Town, the location of a white horse carved into the hillside. Along with those green views come a commitment to green facilities on site – including eco-friendly solar panels that produce the electricity for the farm and the yurt. It’s a spacious setup in the yurt – it’s easily large enough to stand up in, and contains a proper double bed (made up ready for your arrival). Tea and coffee making facilities are provided, with a firepit outside and a barbecue available on request. Just next to the yurt is a converted cargo container that’s been kitted out with bathroom facilities (including an eco-friendly compost toilet) for your exclusive use. Although bed linen is provided, you’ll need to bring your own towels and toiletries, along with whatever food you’d like to cook on the barbecue. The nearest place for supplies (or meals out) is Royal Wootton Bassett, about a mile and a half away.

Local attractions

You might like to start your stay by taking a countryside stroll – there are paths leading from the farm across neighbouring fields to the old Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal, via the meadows of the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. Other walks nearby take you to see the Hackpen White Horse (10 minutes’ drive) and the neolithic stone circle at Avebury (15 minutes). For other ways to spend some time out in the open air you may like to go fishing at Ivy House Lakes (10 minutes), play a round at Brinkworth Golf Club (15 minutes) or try out various watersports (including kayaking, paddleboarding and an inflatable assault course) at the Cotswold Water Park – there’s also an inland sandy beach here if you just need to chill out for a bit. Train enthusiasts may well enjoy a trip to see the abandoned station at Purton (15 minutes) and a visit to STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway (20 minutes). If you don’t mind a little longer drive, day trips to Bath (an hour) and Salisbury (an hour and 10 minutes) are within reach too.
