It will, of course, rather depend on your starting point and final destination. But if you’re Devon- or Cornwall-bound on the A303, it’s quite possible that The Halfway Caravan and Camping Park will indeed offer a handy stopover roughly halfway through the journey. There’s rather more to this small and rural Somerset green-energy site than simply a place to flop for the night though... For starters, fab views can be had over the surrounding fields and farmland, and there's easy access to a whole bunch of townie amenities five minutes' drive away in Yeovil. On top of that, it’s surely always a bonus to note that there’s an inn next door – especially when it happens to be one that serves up top-notch grub and has a lakeside trail for post-drive leg-stretching. It's worth resisting the urge to get straight back on the road here, as the park is in an excellent location for days out. Those who settle in for several days can hit Weymouth's beach, Stourhead's gardens, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole with a leisurely drive of an hour or so, or take to local trails for rambles or rides. Between day trips, there's space on site for kids and dogs to have a bit of a run about while the grownups put their feet up, pour a glass of something (ideally something local, this being cider country) and gently stoke the barbecue coals. One final thing to add to the list of great features here? The owners are proud of their eco-friendly approach, with the site powered by 100% renewable energy.

Liked We had an absolutely amazing week camping. My boys fished every day, I enjoyed walks around the lake with my dog. It was lovely to have electric showers that ran hot. Steve and the team were so welcoming and accommodating and even lent items we were missing. It is such a beautiful site for camping. We will definitely be visiting again.

Disliked Absolutely nothing. We chose to camp in October so the weather isn't any fault of the campsite!

Liked Lovely view of the lake, great doggy shower and toilet block very clean. Pub nice and food great. Enjoyed the whole stay.

Disliked Pub closed really early on the Sunday evening which was a shame. A little noisy from the traffic but it was fine.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked This was our second visit. This time in the lake side pitches. Absolutely lovely, toilets convenient and clean, plenty of lighting around. Very convenient heading to Tiger Tank day at Bovington Tank museum.
We found the pitch was close enough to level that we didn't need ramps, but our neighbours had theirs out so probably down to preference.

Liked Nice small site with the bonus of a fishing lake along with a short pier which is lit up beautifully in the evening. Good facilities (showers, WCs, chemical and general rubbish disposal, drinking water, ehu). Might not be your thing but you can check out the bats late evening feeding on the insects on the lake, quite mesmerising 🖖

Disliked Could have been better with a few more toilets/showers and if there was hot water for the washing up area. Minor niggles though.
