  • Caravan and Motorhome Club site 15 minutes’ walk from a Somerset beach
  • Mendip Hills walks and Cheddar Gorge within a half-hour drive
  • Member price shown; non-members select £15/night extra or join for £69
If you're heading to the Somerset coast for some beach time, you’ll want to take a look at Hurn Lane Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. This well-maintained site is just 15 minutes’ walk from sandy Berrow beach – and a lovely walk it is too, taking you through the Berrow Dunes Local Nature Reserve. The site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and it’s open to both members and non-members, with special rates available for members. The price displayed is for members; non-members will need to select the £15 per night extra or buy a membership. And that £69 membership is well worth considering if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Caravan and Motorhome Club site over the year – it brings discounts at more than 140 UK sites, plus a raft of other perks, like access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. Hurn Lane is nicely set up for touring guests, with large pitches that give plenty of space for an awning, a gazebo, a barbecue and an outdoor table. The well-kept shared facilities include a launderette and a chemical disposal point as well as a pair of bathroom blocks (with wheelchair-accessible facilities and a baby/toddler room). A play area provides a place for the kids to have a bit of fun, and there are plenty of places nearby to walk your dogs. Between Brean and Burnham-on-Sea (both a few minutes’ drive away), this spot is well placed for trying out all the local beaches and coast walks – and also for heading inland for walks in the Mendip Hills National Landscape or visits to places like Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely welcome on arrival. Check in was quick & easy. Directed to our pitch which was easy to find. Pitches were nice and spacious, hook up within close proximity. The showers & toilets were great clean and warm and always hot water. We didn’t use the washing up facilities. There’s a shed with lots of useful local information which we found really handy. There’s a Morrisons daily a short walk down the road. We walked to the main road and got the bus into Burnham. The site was nice a quiet. The reception did did warn us about a neighbouring site that can get noisy. We didn’t hear anything. Great site would recommend.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked It was very clean with great facilities. The couple on reception were so nice and friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble. Loads of room on pitches, close to the beach for a nice walk. No shop on site, but there is one at the large campsite on the main road, on the way to the beach. Was lovely and quiet here. We would definitely go back!

Disliked My only point, not even a criticism is, you can pick your own spot which is great, however, we pitched up on a spot that was already taken and had to move.. no drama, but then another van came and pitched up in the same spot and the occupiers came back, which was a bit awkward. Maybe they could give out a pegged sign saying "pitch taken" on reception or, have a list of spot numbers they know are free.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely site. Showers were great and very clean. Could pick our pitch.
Easy to get to other places if you have a car with you. We went to Weston and down to Weymouth.
Reception helped us find a shop to buy a new gas connector as we brought the wrong one with us.

Disliked Play area not suitable for toddlers which was fine just a word to others with little ones but theres plenty to do in Weston super mare which is only a short drive.
Shame there was no shop in easy walking distance to top up.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely site. Nice helpful people that run it. Toilet and showers where kept very clean. Very good well maintained pitches.

Disliked People behind us that played music and where very loud until 2am. Although we got on a bus to go out everywhere we had great difficulty getting a taxi back to the site. Lovely site but I wouldn't go back.

Local attractions

A short walk through the dunes takes you to Berrow beach, a long sandy stretch where the wreck of the SS Nornen appears at low tide. It’s a lovely spot, but you may also like to visit the alternatives in Brean (five minutes’ drive), with its theme park and amusements, or Burnham-on-Sea (10 minutes), a quieter spot with a traffic-free prom for a sunset stroll. Golf fans can play a round at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club (five minutes), while families check out places like the Water Adventure Play Park and Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare (20 minutes). There are also lots of lovely seaside walks around National Trust - Brean Down Fort (25 minutes). Turning away from the coast for a while, you’ll want to head to Cheddar (25 minutes) to visit the gorge and sample the famed cheese. Nearby you can also head underground at Wookey Hole (40 minutes) or take scenic walks through the Mendip Hills National Landscape.
