  • Peaceful, dog-friendly rural farm site in the Dorset countryside
  • A five-minute drive to Swanage and half an hour to the Jurassic Coast
  • Back to basics site with drinking water, toilets, and showers
From castle gambols to digging for treasure in the sand, the Jurassic Coast and the serene Dorset countryside are your stomping grounds when you stay at Quarr Camping. Between the novel-esque Corfe Castle and the traditional seaside town of Swanage, this family-friendly site is well situated for an action-packed holiday of countryside capers or simply a spot of well-deserved seaside relaxation. Toot toot… what’s that sound? The traditional steam railway is nearby, and the heritage railway of Harman’s Cross railway station quite literally around the corner (10 minutes’ walk). Explore the area on foot, wheels or rail, and tick off coastal must-sees such as Durdle Door, Dancing Ledge, and Winspit Quarry, all within a 30-minute drive. Once you’re done, lean back and listen to a countryside soundtrack – crickets, cows, and all sorts of countryside animals – on this peaceful rural farm site, welcoming families, dogs and all countryside enthusiasts. You'll have to prepare to get back to basics at this site, but it's got running drinking water, toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Plus, you can complete the true outdoor experience with a campfire or barbecue, picking up supplies from the local shop within a 10-minute stroll. If a pint or pub grub is on your mind, there are also several pubs within five minutes’ drive. You’ll certainly need the fuel after an action-packed day of watersports, coastal hiking or biking, or sightseeing your way around.

What customers say

This is a popular, back-to-basics campsite with plentiful space and a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors frequently highlight the charm of the passing steam trains and the family-friendly hay bale play area. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are generally praised for their cleanliness. The location is ideal for exploring Swanage and surrounding areas. While the site is considered excellent value, some guests noted the basic nature of the facilities, including the shower coin system and occasional uneven ground.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked how peaceful and spacious place is
Steam train coming through every hour
how close to Swanage and Lulworth and other places this is
toilets and showers - all in good order, clean and always with lots of toilet paper and even hand soap
Lovely owners - even delivered wood and fire pit for us when we were out

Disliked only 20p coins for showers - only as they are difficult to get hold off

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite, booked originally for the one night due to reading a couple of recent mixed reviews but managed to speak to the lovely owners at the reception hut and extended our booking to 5 nights.
Such a lovely location, the train going last is a lovely attraction.
Great facilities, nice snack selection and ice creams on site. Toilets and showers were great and cleaned regularly and for the price far nicer than portaloos.
The firepits were a great add on and easy enough to get more logs when we needed.
Will definitely be back and recommending to friends!

Disliked Absolutely nothing!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The amount of space, the beautiful scenery, the firepits, the breakfast van option, and the children’s play area.

Disliked Some noise in the evening (group up late with music next to us) and early morning (vehicles moving around).

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Loved the location & the train passing along the bottom of the field. Really loved the simplicity of everything as we always prefer the ‘choose where you camp’ sites. Loved having easy access to the footpath to some lovely walks from behind the toilet block. Toilet facilities & showers were clean throughout. We liked the 20p shower facility as meant we never queued for long. Yes another basin in the ladies would have been good but everyone was respectful of each other, stepping aside to share. The children’s hay bale area looked great for those with children of that age & it was lovely to see & hear the children having a fabulous time.
We had a lovely time & will definitely return.

Disliked We didn’t dislike anything about the site. Our only negative experience was 2 sets of noisy neighbours who sadly pitched next to us & didn’t respect the ‘quiet time’ rules or not playing loud music. This was a shame as we were delighted by the 10pm no noise rule. However it also gave us plenty to have a laugh about afterwards.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful spot, very relaxing. Didn’t have to wait too long for showers (remember 20ps), great hosts were very helpful. Can hire fire pits and they sell few bits.
Could pick your pitch.

Disliked Slightly sloped field in most places. Most flat were taken up by the time we got there.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice clean camp site,
Nice to watch the steam train going past.
Owners where very nice and welcoming,
Loved the no noise after 10pm rule Which every site did this! Made for a nice peaceful evenings even with the very busy site!

Disliked Nothing really, although with the amount of campers on site could have benefited with another shower/toilet block.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very family friendly, big site and lots of space to set up!
Very close to beach, 10 min drive to the front with available takeaways very close.
Clean and looked after!

Disliked Many pitches are slopped - not a deal breaker but was difficult to find a level area.

Showers start as soon as you enter 20p coin into slot - have to go in pairs otherwise you end up spending more money. We have visited cheaper sites with free showers so i was unsure why they were at a charge.

Staff only seen on site for half hour every day apart from a friday - They may have been around however this didn’t seem to be the case. Of course you can ring with any enquiries and i’m sure they would be happy to help.

Liked Good value for money
Clean toilets - never queued during our stay but there is only one sink.
Didn’t use showers (20p coins needed). Busy in mornings but plenty of quiet times.
Children’s hay bale area great for the children to play while you wash up!
Great campsite. Loved watching the steam trains go past.

Disliked Fire pit hire was expensive as we only stayed 2 nights.

Local attractions

You’ll feel like you’ve stumbled into a scene from a storybook at Harman’s Cross station (10 minutes’ walk). Pick a picnic bench, gaze at the old-school platforms and Portland stone period buildings and watch as the trains roll by. More history hangs heavy in the air at Corfe Castle (five minutes’ drive). The Jurassic Coast is where you’ll find most of the action… head down early to beat the crowds to Durdle Door (30 minutes) and its neighbour Lulworth Cove. It's hard to beat a shoreline that has silky sand, iconic landmarks and paddle-worthy waters all in one. Tick your way along the coast, beginning with a dip in the shallow pool at Dancing Ledge (5 minutes), and then on to Winspit Quarry (15 minutes) and the clifftop Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve (15 minutes)… or pick between watersports or a sandcastle face-off on the beaches of Sandbanks (40 minutes) and Studland (10 minutes).
