  • Peaceful site backed by woodland in rural Dorset
  • A five-minute drive to Swanage beach; Corfe Castle 10 minutes
  • Dark site with Swanage Railway and the South West Coast Path close by
Coombe Farm Camping is a simple, peaceful site on the outskirts of Swanage in Dorset. The site is set in a 13-acre field framed by oak woods, with exceptional views across the Downs and a real chance of spotting wildlife like deer and owls. One thing you’ll get here that’s certainly a novelty is steam locomotives chuffing along Swanage Railway at the bottom of the camping field – not everyone can say they’ve got a heritage railway line almost to themselves – and there’s even a footpath down to the railway track if you’d like to get a better view of the trains. Despite this field feeling wonderfully remote, it’s actually only a five-minute drive from Swanage, with its popular beach, great pubs and restaurants. And if you’d rather cook for yourselves, here you can pick up stuff to grill on the firepit back at base. If you’re into serious walking, you can jump on the South West Coast Path in five minutes’ drive, for bracing hikes along clifftops, and if you’re keen on your medieval history, drive to 11th-century Corfe Castle (10 minutes) to scramble around the hillside ruins. Basic facilities include a tap in the washing-up area and portable toilets, but what this site is all about is the chance to spend quiet evenings sitting under the stars with family and friends – and remember to bring that telescope so you can watch the Milky Way glittering above on clear nights.

What customers say

This is a well-located, simple campsite praised for its stunning views, spacious feel, and peaceful atmosphere. Staff are frequently noted as friendly and helpful. While facilities are basic, they are generally considered clean and adequate for the price. Popular with families and solo travellers, it's convenient for exploring Swanage and surrounding areas via bus or foot. Some guests noted uneven ground and the absence of showers and hot water as minor drawbacks.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great rural location just outside Swanage.
It should be mentioned that there are buses within a few metres of the entrance. Great for exploring without your vehicle. Went to Lulworth cove, returned from Swanage.

Disliked Lack of showers but we knew this and it’s fine for a short stay

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful location, 5 min drive from the beach/town, bus stop directly at the entrance with buses running until late. We’ve camped in swanage multiple times and this is definitely our new favourite!

Disliked Not a dislike but camping for more than 1 or 2 nights may be tricky without a shower block
