Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The views, and peace and quiet.

Disliked Our second visit, first being August Bank Holiday 2024, stayed the same time this year.
We felt the facilities could not cope with the amount of campers this year. Last year there was a guy constantly keeping the compost toilets clean, this year, no-one, We saw someone once over a 48 hour time frame and no compost at all available, I would have taken a photo but it was too horrific.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Nice views, level pitches, laid back vibe with no check in/out times…….for a bigger motorhome, the approach lane is narrow, but with passing places, for dodging tractors……

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice views, good space and free to pitch where you like

Disliked Toilets weren't great- we were aware they were compost toilets which we've been fine with before but they didn't have any sawdust to cover so get smelly fast and waste levels were high. The weekend we stayed there were lots of families with small children so was noisier in the morning, not a site if you want a lie in!

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Site was pretty flat and well kept. Amenities were clean and tidy and the ability to have a camp fire was a real plus. The no fuss approach to arrival and departure made our single night stay very easy and pleasant.
Kids play set and swing was a nice touch.

Disliked Only has the one shower but this did not greatly impact our stay.

Local attractions

When your break is all about getting back to nature, you can stroll across the fields to the Iron Age fort at Blackbury Camp (five minutes’ walk), and everybody can stretch their legs (or paws) on a ramble around Bovey Down Woods (half an hour), where you can often spot deer among the trees. For a stroll with a difference, exercise an alpaca out on the trails at Bearhouse Alpacas (10 minutes’ drive). Continuing with the animal theme, most kids adore petting the donkeys at The Donkey Sanctuary (also 10 minutes), or there are endangered wolves, bears and red squirrels to view at Wildwood Devon animal park (20 minutes). Younger kids will enjoy the mini-train rides at Pecorama (15 minutes) as well as the waterslides, gentle rollercoasters and go-kart track at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (25 minutes). Maybe you’d all rather laze on a Jurassic Coast beach? The closest are at Branscombe, a shingle stretch with access to the South West Coast Path, and Beer (both 15 minutes), where fishermen will take you out in their boats to catch mackerel or you can try out various watersports.
