  • Camping pitches with Widemouth Bay views in Cornwall
  • A five-minute drive from Bude; half an hour from Tintagel
  • Pub, shop, restaurant and surf hire all a couple of minutes' walk away
Ever dreamed of waking up to a sea view? Or perhaps stoking the flames of a campfire as the sun sets over the waves? Sign up for a bit of both with a stay at Sandparks Campsite, a friendly, informal site with pitches overlooking Widemouth beach in north Cornwall. Those in the know will no doubt recognise this name as being one of Cornwall’s top surfing beaches – and as well as viewing it from your pitch you can also get down there to hit the waves whenever you fancy from here. And it’s not just the beach that’s handy: a pub (with top-notch Cornish ales), a restaurant (with fresh seafood) and a shop (with local meat and fish for your barbecue) are all a mere 50 metres away from the site. There’s also surfing kit hire available for those who don’t have their own board. If you fancy exploring a little further afield, it’s worth noting that this is a fine spot for getting out to walk on the South West Coast Path or to spend some time roaming around north Cornwall. Bude is about a 40-minute walk or five-minute drive away and you can get to the likes of Boscastle, Tintagel and Bodmin Moor within half an hour’s drive. Life on site is pretty simple, but guests have access to a waste disposal point, a washing-up area and a modern toilet and shower block. Barbecues and campfires are both permitted at this laidback spot, as are visiting dogs.

What customers say

This site boasts a superb location directly opposite Widemouth Bay beach, offering stunning sea views and easy access for surfing and coastal walks. Guests consistently praise the immaculately clean and modern facilities, including showers and outdoor wash-down areas. The friendly and helpful staff, particularly wardens Sue and Gary, contribute to a relaxed atmosphere. Nearby pubs, restaurants, and a shop add to the convenience. While some mention occasional wind and occasional crowding during peak times, the overall feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with many planning return visits.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Wonderful campsite in the most beautiful location. We were there over bank Holiday weekend so it was busy. However the facilities were immaculate and well maintained.
The two people on arrival (sorry couldn't remember names) were so helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble. We will 100% be back next summer. Thank you!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Very laid back campsite in a great location opposite beach. Clean facilities. Plenty of water points around field. Burger van on site which is open from 7:30am for fry ups and evenings from 6pm for burger & chips etc.
Great farm shop across the road selling fresh bread, eggs, milk and hot pasties at a reasonable price.

Disliked Sloping field with minimal facilities for amount of pitches/people staying on site. Four showers/six toilets in ladies & same in gents, some outside showers. Pot washing area. £15 per person in high season.

Liked Clean, great view, nice people, chilled vibe. Spacious and quiet enough.

Disliked Local shop closes before check-in time, do had to drive back to Bude for any thing we’d forgotten. Not the campsites fault though.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The site is a bit undulating, but there's enough flat bits for those in tents. The proximity to the beach couldn't be better, we could hear the sea in the evenings as we sipped a beer. Showers, toilets etc. are all excellent. New in the last couple of years I heard, there's also communal fridges and freezers for storing ice packs and food. We didn't try leaving food or drinks there, just froze our ice blocks. They'll happily charge your devices for you in the office or in their accommodation which is a cheeky bonus. Sue was lovely and very helpful, try to ask her when you need help.

Disliked Why oh why would you work in a people facing job if you don't like people?! Gary (warden) is 'grumpy old man' personified! Not just our opinion, our neighbours had a run in with him too. He's one of those people who says "well, obviously..." when it's not at all obvious. Just explain it clearly because we don't work on campsites everyday. Say "please could you..." in a polite tone, instead of "don't do that" in a snappy voice.

A few inconsiderate campers. Music late at night. Drunk 20-somethings coming back at midnight. Generator going for hours. The wardens did try to keep these things in check, but one lap at 10pm doesn't keep the noise down.

Liked Loved the managers. Could not have been more accommodating with our larger vehicle and request for an extra night. Location is great. Across the road for widemouth bay beach and 10 mins easy walk to black rock beach which allows dogs.

Local attractions

Widemouth isn’t the only bit of coastal Cornwall that’s easy to visit from here. Sandparks is also in a handy spot for outings to Bude (five minutes’ drive), where another top surf beach beckons, along with surf lessons and a sea pool for more gentle swims. Elsewhere along the coast, you could stop by in Boscastle (20 minutes) for a stroll around a traditional fishing village, or explore Arthurian legends at Tintagel Castle (half an hour) – perhaps also stopping by at the mystical St Nectan’s Glen (25 minutes) to see if you can spot pixies as you walk to the waterfall. Turning inland for a while, there are some great walks to be done on Bodmin Moor (25 minutes), or you could delve into the area’s history at Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum (15 minutes). Other options for entertaining the kids might be the animals at New Mills Farm Park, the puzzle-themed attractions at Hidden Valley or the characterful residents of The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden – all are about a half-hour drive away.
