View of tintagel from campsite

  • Frill-free site with sea views on a Cornish dairy farm
  • A mile and a half from Tintagel; Boscastle 10 minutes' drive
  • Spacious pitches with basic amenities; dogs on leads allowed
Dawdling on a dairy farm on the north coast of Cornwall is all the nicer when there are fetching sea views to take in… If you're seeking a spell of country strolling, dips at the beach and open-air chilling, Little Clifden Campsite near Tintagel should be just the job. Guests are (depending on availability) able to pick their own pitches at this low-key Cornish spot. Wherever you end up settling down, you'll be a short stroll from handy facilities like two coin-operated showers, unisex toilets, a shower block, washing-up facilities, a cold water tap and rubbish disposal points. There aren't an awful lot of rules here, but those bringing four-legged friends need to keep them on leads at all times when on site and be mindful of the livestock grazing in neighbouring fields. Away from base, it's under half a mile to St Nectan's Glen, a gorgeous woodland on the banks of the Trevillet river with walks, a 60-foot waterfall and a café for drinks and light bites (a path to this scenic spot runs adjacent to the site). You can also give your legs a gentle stretch by taking the half-hour wander down into Tintagel village, where there are lots of food options, a small supermarket, laundry facilities and an assortment of independent shops.

What customers say

This campsite offers beautiful sea views and ample space, with many visitors praising the friendly and helpful owner, Sally. Facilities are generally clean, though some mention they are basic and that there can be queues for the limited toilets and showers, particularly during busy periods. The location is ideal for exploring local attractions like Tintagel Castle and St Nectan's Glen, with many walks accessible directly from the site. Campfires are permitted, and fire pits can be hired.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We loved the campsite. It was large area where you could pitch anywhere. We choose a pitch close to the entrance. Despite the proximity to the entrance it was not too loud. Our neighbours were quiet in the evening. We had a fire in our portable fire pit. The wind was up a bit but blew away from other campers. The toilets were clean always with plenty of toilet roll, soap and paper towels. The shower was very nice to use.

The location of the campsite was great for accessing the coastal paths as well as Tintagel.

If we returned to the area we would reuse this site.

Disliked The field sloped a bit. We slept ok though. It might upset some people but not us: the toilets are unisex.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Great little place to stay! Clean, well maintained facilities and a wide open space to pitch up. Dog friendly, peaceful and you have a lovely view of the sea.
There is just a short walk to the village and a longer trek along the coast if you're more of a hiker (like myself).
It can be sloped in places so bring your wedges.

Local attractions

Walks? Yes indeed. This site is roughly a mile from the South West Coast Path, a 630-mile route that becomes particularly pretty in this part of Cornwall. After a few days on the trot you might want to stop off at a spa to soothe aching muscles – there's one in Bude (30 minutes' drive) if you're heading east and Trebetherick (30 minutes) if you're wending your way westwards to Land's End. If you'd rather save your poor feet, perhaps a one-mile stroll around the National Trust's Rocky Valley (five minutes' drive) will be a better fit. Tiddlers not amused by the prospect of such active jaunts? Tintagel Toy Museum and the village's historic castle (30 minutes' walk/five minutes' drive) should provide sufficient amusement if you're sticking close to base. Need more? The brill town of Boscastle (10 minutes) has opportunities for crabbing off the harbour wall, plus a museum all about witchcraft that's recommended for kids who aren't too easily spooked. Days likely to please tots and grownups alike are to be found in Trethorne (25 minutes), where there's a hands-on indoor play centre, bowling and a well-kept 18-hole golf course. The Eden Project (50 minutes), an uncontested must-see when visiting these parts, is also within reach.
