  • Cornwall caravan site on a working farm 10 minutes’ drive from Helston
  • A 10-minute drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove beach and Dollar Cove
  • Dog-friendly grass pitches; pubs and shops within 10 minutes’ drive
Always on the lookout for a quiet corner of Cornwall in which to lay your head? One that’s close to beaches, theme parks and woodland walks as well? Peaceful Gunwalloe Caravan Park may suit you very well, set as it is on a working arable farm less than 10 minutes’ drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach and forest trails at National Trust-owned Penrose. With easy access to tree-sheltered grass pitches along hardstanding tracks, this is a no-frills site, owned and run by a family for families. Pets are welcome to tag along too, and there’s plenty of dog walking to be had along forested trails and shingle banks around The Loe freshwater lake and Carminowe Creek (10 minutes’ drive). Head to Gunwalloe village for a night out in the well-known Halzephron Inn (five minutes’ drive or half an hour’s walk), or try out waterfront pubs and takeaways around the fishing harbour in Porthleven (15 minutes’ drive). If you’re running short on provisions, historic Helston (10 minutes) has supermarkets for stocking up as well as pasty shops, pizzerias and burger bars if you’d like to give cooking a miss.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (medium)

Liked Claire greeted us on a very cold New Year’s Eve (2025/26) and she showed us our pitch and where the shower block was. We could even order warm croissants and pain au chocolat on arrival for us to collect from the campsite shop the following morning, where we also could buy fresh coffee too. The pitch was nice and level. There were a few other campervans and caravans on site.
It’s a lovely campsite, quiet and has beautiful dark skies. We listened to the owls calling each other through the night, which was rather special.
It’s a tidy site, and the shower/toilet block is very clean and warm which was welcome when camping in the winter!
Take a torch if walking the easy mile and a half to the local pub, which is well worth a visit or two (especially if you have a dog as they are well catered for)

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (medium)

Liked Very clean and tidy. A nice friendly welcome on arrival, nice quiet site good facilities clean toilets hot showers.

Disliked Annoyingly the weather was quite wet so the freshly cut grass was a little messy nothing a quick hoover didn't fix

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked This was a last minute booking on new years eve. But i couldn't have been given a warmer friendly welcome. I was shown to my grass pitch, which was a really good size and level. I booked for new years eve hoping to get away from the noise of fireworks and revellers where I live as they upset my elderly dog. I couldn't have found a better solution. Dispite being fairly busy it was quiet all night, only punctuated by the occasional firework barely audiable in the diatance.
Woke up after a great sleep to the gentle sound of rain tapping on the roof, and wood pidgeons catching up on the latest news, in the tree we parked alongside.
Also my dog was thrilled at the number of nrw and exciting countryside smells on our morning walk

Electric grass pitch (medium)

Liked Small friendly family run site, rural but not in the middle of nowhere. Good access to major attractions in the area. Toilet / shower blocks had underfloor heating (this should be mandatory in all campsites lol) & very clean. Decent washing up area. No issues with EHU. Nice & dark at night.

Disliked Pitch mixup resulting in coming back in the early hours of NYD after being out for NYE to another campervan on our pitch. Luckily we were able to park up & hook up but 6m fire rule definitely not adhered to. Hosts quick to reply, even in the early hours. Campervan did return & park up in same place again the next evening but was eventually sorted. Did make us a little nervous to leave van after in case they were unhappy with moving.

WiFi wasn't strong enough to use, we relied on our mobile data as we had signal.

Electric grass pitch (medium)

Liked Location . Welcoming owners. Good location away from traffic noise.

Disliked Pitches not clearly marked. Grass is uneven in places. Hardstanding very narrow and made up of compacted stones and only wide enough to site vehicle or caravan/ motorhome which meant users would use grass alongside for getting in and out of unit.
Water points/ taps need posts replacement.

Local attractions

When you fancy a serious yomp along the dramatic coastline, follow the South West Coast Path (10 minutes’ drive) to Kynance Cove (around three hours’ walk) on the Lizard Peninsula. Shorter hops include a shoreline walk to Porthleven (90 minutes), and strolls around the headland at Poldhu Cove (20 minutes). Walk or boat across to the ancient St Michael's Mount (half an hour) to look out for the giant's heart stone. For other family days out, consider a visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (10 minutes) to join sea lion feeding sessions and watch seals and puffins in their watery enclosures, or take intrepid kids to Via Ferrata Cornwall (20 minutes) for climbing, ziplining, watersports and other adventures. History lovers might care to head for the harbourside National Maritime Museum Cornwall (35 minutes) in Falmouth to tour historic steamboats and let the kids loose on interactive, pirate-themed exhibits. When the weather is warm and you’d prefer to be outdoors, have a wander through the subtropical plantings and water features at dog-friendly Trebah Garden (half an hour).
