Stunning coastal walks

  • Dog-friendly site with sea views a 10-minute drive from Falmouth
  • Trebah Garden or Glendurgan Garden 10 minutes’ drive
  • Woodland walks starting from the farm; half a mile from the local pub
If windswept coastal walks with your four-legged friend are your jam, pack your hiking boots (and the lead) and head to Trewen Farm Campsite, a peaceful spot where you can set up on a vast grassy area with spectacular views of the sea. Things feel blissfully remote here, but you’re only half a mile from the nearest village – Budock Water – so when you fancy a pint or you need to stock up on barbecue essentials, you don’t have far to go. For more restaurant options, head to lively Falmouth (10 minutes; or take the bus, which runs a regular service from Budock Water). Woodland trails cross the farm and link to a wider network of walks in the surrounding area, including the South West Coast Path, which takes you past rugged cliffs and dramatic seascapes to lookouts like Stack Point (50 minutes on foot) and beaches like Swanpool (one hour on foot), a stretch of sand and shingle with kayak and paddleboard hire, plus a miniature golf course. There are also trails in Carwinion Woods (10 minutes), which is a riot of colourful wildflowers in the spring, and a circular walk along the shores of Argal Reservoir (15 minutes), where you might indulge in a spot of birdwatching or fishing (be sure to get a permit for this). If this is all too tame for you, get your adrenaline going at Via Ferrata Cornwall (15 minutes), with multiple routes up granite cliffs.

Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Clean toilets and washing up sinks.
Fridge and freezer available to use.
The view from the bottom of the field was stupendous.

Disliked Cars (taxis?) running up and down the road next to the campsite until 3 am both nights.
Pitching up until 9pm only but someone pitched around midnight with full car headlights on right next to us.
No noise after 10 pm was totally ignored but there is no one there to enforce the rules.

Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Good little kitchen space and a shower and toilet block. Very clean. Lots of space with a view to the sea.

Disliked Showers had hot water but small stalls and a bit open to the air. Not much shelter from the wind.

Local attractions

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall, overlooking the harbour in Falmouth, displays among other things a collection of small boats from all around the world – from dinghies and lifeboats, to outrigger canoes. Medieval jousts take place throughout the summer at Pendennis Castle, built by Henry VIII on a rocky headland. Green-fingered visitors make a beeline for splendid green hubs such as Trebah Garden and National Trust Glendurgan Garden (both 10 minutes’ drive). The latter spreads across three valleys and has a cherry laurel maze planted almost two centuries ago (1833). Trebah is renowned for its collections of rhododendrons and camellias. For other days out, take a ride on the Helston Railway (25 minutes), spend the day exploring Truro (25 minutes) or get out onto the gorgeous Lizard Peninsula to see places like Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach (35 minutes) and Kennack Sands (45 minutes).
