Outdoor Heated Swimming Pool

Well well well. The Middle Age pilgrims may be long gone, but they were smart sorts for picking the medieval well and holy waters now belonging to Juliots Well Lodge Retreat to rest their weary feet at in days of yore: this informal woodland park is in a rural retreat overlooking Lanteglos Valley and acres of Cornish countryside, with views that could only be described as 'heavenly' for well-earned relaxing… Facilities at this park include an indoor pool, a gym and a café area in reception, serving up alcohol as well as hot and cold drinks. The café has an outdoor seating area for summer and a log burner for cosy winter days; you can also access wifi here (please note it's not available across the whole park).

Local attractions

Port Isaac, Padstow, Wadebridge, Newquay and Boscastle are all near Juliots Well, and the closest beach is the long sandy stretch and popular surf of Trebarwith Strand four miles away, with rockpools and caves to clamber around. Also within reach is Tintagel, one of the most visited places in the UK and famed for its legends of King Arthur. The medieval Tintagel Castle, said to be the site of Arthur’s conception, should be your first stop; arthur that, have a gander at the seabirds around this part of coast or take a hike around the National Trust properties hereabout: the Tintagel Old Post Office and parts of the cliff around Penhallick Point, Glebe Cliff and Barras Nose. There are ancient barrows, forts and stone monuments all over Cornwall including a Bronze Age barrow, Iron Age hill fort and Bronze Age stone circle at Camelford, or head to Bodmin Moor ten miles away for hundreds of historical sites and the eighteenth century Jamaica Inn, used by Daphne du Maurier as the setting for her novel about Cornish smugglers. There’s a museum here too covering all things smuggling, and ghostbusters can sign up for one of the regular ghost hunts – overnight hunts are available for the hardy. For more active options, there are three golf courses around Camelford and a sports centre in the town with tennis courts and a heated outdoor pool, and, as it’s Cornwall, watersports and surf schools are close to hand. Or stay dry and take a bike along the Camel Trail, climb up tors on Bodmin Moor or have a canter over the moors or along the coast; there are three equestrian centres in and around Camelford to get horsey at. Feeling arty? Pack the paints and unpack the easel almost anywhere around the Cornwall coast, with inspiration and envy both on offer at the gallery of Tate St Ives about an hour away. Land’s End is an hour and a half away for more paintworthy scenery, and you can also reach Plymouth in around an hour for a Devon day trip.
