  • Peaceful glamping site in North Yorkshire; families and dogs welcome
  • In a quiet location under a mile from the centre of Thirsk
  • Free entry to Thirsk Hall Sculpture Garden for bell tent guests
Whether you've come to North Yorkshire to walk in its heavenly hills or on the trail of local lad James Herriot, Thirsk Hall Glamping makes a fantastic place to stay. Located in a quiet area but under a mile from Thirsk's thriving town centre, this attractive glamping site welcomes couples, families and guests travelling with well-behaved dogs. The site's smart bell tents are nicely set up for outdoor breaks, with space for up to four guests in one double and two single beds. Luxury duvets, two pillows per person and linen are all provided, as are tea and coffee making facilities, firepits with outsoor seating, three-pin and USB charging points and shared flushing toilet and hot shower facilities. All of this is just a short walk from the stunning surrounds of Thirsk Hall Sculpture Garden, an outdoor gallery space in the grounds of a listed townhouse that glamping guests can access for free. Thirsk’s other amenities are all under a mile away, meaning that pubs, restaurants, food shops, delis and a pretty picnic area by Cod Beck are within easy strolling distance.

Local attractions

Staying local, you might want to stick around in Thirsk for a couple of days to take advantage of outdoor attractions like the town's open-air cinema (seasonal screenings available) and racecourse (where there are regular events). The site is also a few minutes' wander from The World Of James Herriot, a lovingly maintained museum all about the life and times of this celebrated Yorkshire writer. Wandering further afield, you can head for the scenic walking and cycling trails at nearby Sutton Bank (15 minutes' drive), where bike hire, a café and a kids' playground are available. The rolling landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales National Park are also reachable within about 30 minutes' drive to the west, while beaches and seafronts can be accessed within an hour at seaside towns like Whitby. If you're into history and heritage, take a trip to Fountains Abbey (30 minutes), one of the best preserved monasteries in England – it’s also right next to Studley Royal, a gorgeous 18th-century landscaped garden. On the way back to base, take the time to call in at Ripon (20 minutes), where there are pretty riverside walks plus a cathedral and a range of different museums.
