General

  • Quiet, adults-only site amid stunning scenery in the Yorkshire Dales
  • A five-minute walk to Kettlewell on the Dales Way for hiking
  • Great Whernside fell and Kilnsey Crag within 15 minutes’ drive

As a smaller, adults-only site in the Yorkshire Dales National Park that welcomes couples and solo travellers but not groups, Wharfe Camp encourages a peaceful, quiet atmosphere where you'll be surrounded by the sounds of the countryside.

This park’s also in a serene setting: as well as only accepting a small number of people, it has views of the green north Yorkshire countryside and is a five-minute walk from Kettlewell with its three pubs, bistro, garage, launderette and well-stocked village shop. The rural settlement (known for its annual Scarecrow Festival) is on the Dales Way, so there are lots of scenic walks in the local area.

The River Wharfe is also metres from the site for kayakers and Kilnsey Crag is less than 10 minutes’ drive away for the climbers. Cavers are also sorted as the subterranean systems in Wharfedale are about the same distance from the park.

If you’re sticking to strolls, the circular route around the glacial lake at Malham Tarn starts from 45 minutes away or you can wander up to the waterfalls at Gordale Scar to gaze up at the overhanging limestone cliffs, stopping by Malham Cove to take snaps of the odd rock formations (35 minutes from the park) along the way.

On site, the back of the family barn has been extended to include new toilets, a hot shower in a wetroom and washing-up facilities. Recycling’s also encouraged. Please note this is place that's all about the peace and quiet, so no radios or other musical kit will be allowed, and guests are asked to close car door and boots gently. Group bookings aren't permitted either (this includes groups making individual bookings and meeting up on site).

Pod was lovely and cosy and had home comforts, friendly helpful staff and and clean toilets and showers

    Disliked:

Pod was very near the road with fast moving traffic going by, which made me nervous as there was only a hedge between the pod and road and cars we’re driving exceptionally fast

From the manager...

Glad you found the Pod to your liking and us friendly and helpful.
We are sorry about the traffic, but bank holiday weekends in the dales do encourage a lot of visitors to the area.
You mustn't have realised the Pod is not just separated by a hedge.
I should point out for the benefit of anyone reading, and also wanting to visit, that there is not just a hedge behind the Pod, but also a 2m high stone wall separating the Pod/Campsite from the road.

Hosts are lovely and the pod is clean and tidy. Great amenities in the pod with a fridge, clean bedding, a little table, cooking stove, kettle, toaster and a lovely deck and chairs outside for breakfast or relaxing in the evening.

Quiet site which is also lovely.

    Disliked:

So many flies in the bathroom!!! Hundreds!
So many spiders which come out at night in the bathroom. I wish they managed to catch the flies, but unfortunately that’s not the case.

I struggled to get good airflow through the pod so found it to get quite warm and struggle to sleep. There is a heating unit, and if you leave that on too long ten you’ll definitely struggle to cool the unit down quickly.

From the manager...

We are really sorry you experienced flies in the facility area. We do realise there are flies are around, especially with the farm animals next door, but due to Covid19 we are following guidance and keeping the facilities door and window open to allow airflow throughout and to not create an enclosed space.
Flies and spiders are part of staying in the countryside and part of a camping experience. In future we do hope to be able to shut the door again, but definitely not until safe for all our campers with the covid issue.
We will look at getting some fly papers or a zapper to help solve a the issue.
On arrival we had mentioned the heating system in the Pod is an intelligent system where it is set at a comfortable 20 degrees. We also mentioned just switch off at the wall if it is too warm. When doing the deep clean after your departure I did noticed that it had been turned up to 26 degrees. This is probably why it was so hot for you. Being a pod if the door and window are left open for 10 minutes the airflow would have helped cool it for you.
On arrival I mentioned and our information sheet says that if any issues please mention to us and we would try our utmost to sort.
We are very sorry that you had these problems and really hope that it didn't spoil your stay.
Regards
Wharfe Camp.

The pod was absolutely fantastic! Attention to detail was amazing. Lovely and warm, which was great after being out in cold. Kettle, cooker, fridge, everything you could need. Breakfast included. Beautiful view from bedroom window, quiet site, fantastic hostess. Great base from which to go cycling, running, walking& wild swimming. Kettlewell village only a few hundred meters away for pubs & cafes with great food. Showers was lovely. We have stayed in a lot of camping pods and this was by far the best.
