  • Family-run dairy farm and fishery with views over The Roaches
  • Short drive to Alton Towers, Peak Wildlife Park and Tittesworth Water
  • On-site farm shop and farm animals; 10 minutes' walk to two local pubs
Set on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, Brooklyn Grange Farm is a back-to-basics site on a family-run dairy farm surrounded by gorgeous Staffordshire countryside. The scenery here is varied indeed, with views over quiet fishing pools, grassy meadows and the spectacular rocky ridge known as The Roaches. You'll also be well placed to sample local produce at this small-scale site – you can head to the farm shop, which sells eggs, bacon, sausages, cheese, barbecue meats and other goodies, or grab a local ice cream, milkshake or fresh milk from the on-site Milk Barn. You're welcome to light up a barbecue, as long as it's kept off the grass. If you don't have your own, there are firepits for hire (a cash deposit is required) from the farm shop and kindling and logs for sale. There's also a village pub and carvery around 10 minutes' walk away on the edge of Thorncliffe (with another around 10 minutes' walk away in Blackshaw Moor). For more flavours, try Leek (five minutes' drive), a local market town with a good range of restaurants, cafés and food shops. After a trip to town it's back to the countryside, where you might like to try a spot of catch-and-return fishing at one of the site's well-stocked ponds (for an extra fee, to be booked and paid for at the on-site farm shop; you must have an Environment Agency licence; no fishing available during the spawning season, which is generally in late May and/or early June). You could also take yourself off for a hike in the national park (a mile away), where there are many miles of well-mapped trails to explore. As for facilities, Brooklyn Grange Farm has functional and well-maintained toilets for guests. There is one shower available here (bookable for an extra charge at the farm shop), or you can take the option of travelling five minutes down the road to Brough Park Leisure Centre.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Loved how easy check in was and everything was explained and then we where free to do as we pleased.
Lovely little farm, toilets across the field depending where you pitch up. Also loved that we could have a nosey at the animals. The farm shop was so cute especially the milk station. We brought a glass bottle home for our teenage son who’s milk mad, he was very happy with it.
We had a little morning walk round the lake too.
We walked around 15 minutes to a local pub called The Reform inn which was cozy, the food was great too. This was our first time in our camper van and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would very much recommend.

Liked: Loved the working farm vibe, very welcoming and friendly from Julie.

Donkeys goats and lambs were the best part of the stay.

No noise from other campers.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: It was a wonderful stay at a beautiful campsite.
The walks around the lake were a pleasure for us and our children.
It's truly a great place.

Disliked: There are definitely too few toilets for so many people.
One morning, one of the toilets was out of order because someone had made a terrible mess during the night — there was feces even on the floor.
On top of that, it was clogged and the water wasn’t working.
My husband ended up fixing and cleaning it himself because he couldn't wait any longer in the very long queue. In the morning, I had to wait an hour in line.
It's also not great that there's no warm water to wash hands or dishes.
There's only one shower as well, and you have to book it in advance.

Liked: Watching the farm animals in the fields and the ducks on the pond

Disliked: I arrived at 7.28pm and there was no-one about to check in with, no phone number on the booking to ring so just let myself into the field, toilet facilities not great, nothing to dry your hands with! when I arrived home I discovered that I had left the parcel shelf out of my estate car on the field and apparently they can't find it when I rang the day after

From the manager: In reply to your comments - there are 2 phone numbers on the pitch-up site, with regards to no-one about at 7.28pm, yes the shop was closed, we live on site at the bungalow directly opposite the farm shop, also we are a working Dairy farm and was milking at that time, so maybe we were not visibly in the front yard area at that time but at no point do we never not have anybody not on the farm.
We advertise as a back to basics campsite, hence the no frills facilities, no electric (particularly no electric hand dryers)
With regards to the parcel shelf, the next day after your phone call we searched the whole field as always after a weekend we litter pick & also we mowed the grass, we also checked the skip, hence why at the time we could not find your parcel shelf - I have since phoned you to say we had found your parcel shelf as another camper had moved it from the field and taken it down the toilets area where it was safe from being run over, unfortunately quite well hidden & I had not been informed in the shop from said camper that this had been done, I also asked if you would like to remove or apologise on the pitch-up site for the review you made - you texted me later to say you had tried but couldn't remove the review & fairplay in your text you did apologise to say you had done this review in haste because of the cost of a replacement parcel shelf - I have also spoken to pitch-up to see if they would remove & they told me they couldn't, hence the lengthy reply
