Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Chilled, relaxed and peaceful is how we felt during our stay and afterwards. The owner, Simon, was attentive but not in your face. He was on hand to deal with any queries etc. Loved that the site was not overbooked, something the owner doesn’t allow. Also, as an owner of two reactive rescue dogs it was great that everybody, but 1 person, kept their dogs on leads. Simon also allowed our daughter to stay with us on our pitch at short notice. We will return!!

Disliked Not being able to stay longer.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Excellent campsite. The toilets and showers were clean and well maintained and we had a choice of where to pitch with lots of space. Washing up station had hot water and there was a fridge for ice packs etc, which is always useful.
We travelled with another family and this was accommodated without issues.
The river running through the campsite was deep enough to paddle in, even in very dry conditions, and provided an opportunity to explore.
The owners were friendly and the information on the board was useful. The local pub menu on the board encouraged us to go for lunch, great food and fab choice of both veggie/vegan and GF options. No phone signal at all on site, except an intermittent signal for those on EE. We had seen this in the reviews so had pre-warned the teens and it wasn’t an issue. In fact it was a joy to be able to switch off!
Lots of room to take balls/frisbees/games etc.
Lovely site for those who like a comfortable and basic camping experience.

Disliked Not a dislike but I hadn’t thought ahead about contacting the owner on arrival without a phone signal. There was an intercom by the washing up but I didn’t notice this until towards the end of our stay and I wasn’t sure if this was just for emergencies. A poster/info for new arrivals without phone signal would be an added bonus!

What customers say

This peaceful, well-maintained campsite offers spacious, flat pitches and excellent, spotlessly clean facilities, including hot showers. Owners are frequently described as friendly and helpful. Many appreciate the tranquil, rural setting and the lack of phone signal, noting it's ideal for a digital detox. Some mention the site's suitability for children and dog-friendly nature. A few minor points include the occasional issue with grass length and limited washing-up sinks when busy.

Local attractions

The remains of an Iron Age fort are not the only draw at Roundton Hill National Nature Reserve (15 minutes’ drive). This Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is also a haven for bats (who roost in disused lead mines), lizards and butterflies, plus birds such as yellowhammers and woodpeckers. Had enough of grilling your own meals? A thriving dining scene awaits in Ludlow (40 minutes). For a small market town, Ludlow has a surprising amount of award-winning restaurants, plus traditional pubs and deli shops selling local specialities. If you visit in September, you might also catch the food festival, which takes place inside the medieval castle. In addition to its castle and cathedral, Shrewsbury (40 minutes) is known for the Quarry, a garden stretching along the River Severn. There is plenty to do here besides admiring colourful flower beds and relaxing on the lawn: National Cycle Route 81 skirts the water, you can hire canoes, or let the kids tire themselves out at the Quarry Splash Park.
