  • Static caravans by the Severn, five minutes' drive from Bridgnorth
  • Ironbridge Gorge and West Midlands Safari Park 25 minutes’ drive
  • Dog-friendly site with clubhouse and access to the river for fishing
A five-minute drive from Bridgnorth, alongside a placid stretch of the River Severn, Severn Valley Caravan Park is a peaceful spot in which to relax, cast a fishing line or explore UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the remarkable Ironbridge Gorge (25 minutes’ drive). And all that from a cosy base in a static caravan in the lush Shropshire countryside. The caravan sleeps four people, so you’re covered whether you’re after a family holiday (your dog is welcome, too, as long as it is kept on a lead while on site) or an angling extravaganza with your fishing buddies. The kitchen contains all the main appliances (hob, oven, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster), plus an assortment of cookware and utensils. For those not holidaying with a passionate cook, the on-site clubhouse has drinks, food and entertainment; in addition, there are two dining establishments (one of them a pub serving food) within a 10-minute walk, on either side of the A442. Welcome perks include an outdoor seating area and a fresh supply of bed linen and towels. The caravan also comes with heating, a bathroom with a shower, and a comfortable lounge. The local area is dotted with golf courses (there are at least five within a 20-minute drive), so don’t forget to pack your clubs. Then there are excellent destinations for daily hikes, including Severn Valley Country Park (10 minutes) and, a little farther away, Saltwells Local Nature Reserve (40 minutes), where a former mining landscape is now home to orchids and butterflies.

Local attractions

National Trust properties in the vicinity include Dudmaston Estate (five minutes’ drive) and Kinver Edge and the Rock Houses (15 minutes). The former has splendid parkland and a gallery with artworks by the likes of Matisse and Hepworth. Kinver Edge includes a series of dwellings carved out of the rock. Said to have been the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, Ironbridge Gorge (25 minutes) is perhaps best known for its iconic red iron bridge, built in 1779 across the Severn. If you want to know more about the history of the area, head to the Museum of The Gorge, housed in a distinctive turreted red-brick building. Between Bewdley and Kidderminster, West Midlands Safari Park (25 minutes) is the place to admire African big cats, colourful lorikeets (which you can also feed) and reptiles from all over the world – from iguanas to anacondas. You can choose to explore the park on a self-guided walking or driving safari.
