  • Family campsite with great views in the Vale of the White Horse
  • A half-hour drive to the Cotswolds or central Oxford
  • Communal firepits with seating on site; firewood for sale
You’ll be in for a real rural experience when you stay at Oxford Oak Camping – this simple family-oriented site is just behind Farmer Gow’s farm park and shop in the Oxfordshire countryside. Back at base, pitches are pleasingly spacious, flat and surrounded by hedgerows for a bit of shelter. Simple facilities are provided in the form of toilets and showers, and campfires are heartily encouraged by the provision of communal firepits with seating around them. Firewood can be purchased on site to help such evenings along. With splendid views of the Ridgway and the Uffington White Horse there’s no mistaking the fact that you’re really out in the countryside here – but that doesn’t mean you’ll be cut off at all. There’s a pub about half a mile away in the village of Fernham, and it’s very easy to get to the A420 (the main Oxford-Swindon road) close by for your days out in the likes of the Cotswolds, Oxford and the North Wessex Downs.

What customers say

This is a small, quiet campsite with beautiful rural views and friendly staff. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are consistently reported as clean and well-maintained. Pitches are spacious and level, with fire pits available. Some guests noted that while facilities are basic, they are adequate, though during busy periods, the number of toilets and showers could be a limitation. The on-site petting farm and nearby pub are popular additions.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Toilets and showers were clean

Disliked We got pitched by a grotty resident caravan. The man residing in it coughed, farted and burped loudly all evening until at least midnight.
The site offered no views of the lovely ages.
It says it’s a quiet after 10pm site but huge group singing loudly until 1 am.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Loved watching our 2 and 7 year old running free barefoot under the stars with new friends! Clean toilets (x2 plus 2 portaloos) clean, hot, powerful showers x2 along with sinks and 1 for washing up with provided liquid and sponges. Cute sheep next door to see and hear. Stunning views all around. Flat, spacious pitches. 2 water taps 60 secs walk from the pitch. Farmer gows also let us into their barn play area for free during the peak sun/heat which was kind. All dogs on site were well behaved. Whole field was clean and large wheelie bin for waste.

Disliked Nothing! We loved it!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked In the middle of the country with lovely views.

Disliked Lack of facilities for the size of the field. Field to toilets a danger zone in the dark as no lights at all and also when wet was very slippery mud. Didn’t see the owner once. The bin area overflowing. Toilet/wash area ceiling dripping in places.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked We got a warm welcome from the hosts. We had plenty of space in our plot although it was under the only tree so the birds were our wake up call which we were ok with as we were able to get back to sleep.

Site was clean, tidy well kept with a lit up pergola and large flower pots.
2 showers backed the 2 toilets. Always topped up with toilet roll and soap. The wash up space linked to the shower room which I found a little odd but it seemed to work.

Cars are allowed on site but need to be parked in the car park close by over night which I found unusual as there was plenty of space for ours to be left beside our tent. Maybe it’s for busier periods.

The site is 6 minutes drive to supermarkets, petrol station and another couple minutes to the town of Faringdon Would recommend this for families who are looking for a smaller quieter campsite.

Disliked Small gripe with having to move car away from tent for the night time.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Friendly owners, relaxed atmosphere, clean facilities and hot showers. Good location next to Farmer Gow’s.

Disliked Only 2 toilets and 2 showers (although we never had to wait). A separate washing up area would be helpful.

Local attractions

This is some splendid countryside, so come along prepped for walks or bike rides, either in the immediate surroundings or a little further afield in the North Wessex Downs (10 minutes’ drive) and Cotswolds (half an hour) Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you’re not sure where to start, the Uffington White Horse (10 minutes) and the area around Burford (half an hour) are good bets. You may spot some native wildlife as you roam, but for something more exotic you’ll need to head to the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Garden (half an hour) or to meet the snappy residents of Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes). It’s certainly not safe to get in the water there, but it is at Cotswold Water Park (35 minutes), which has a whole host of watersports as well as a beach area and fishing. For a bit of history and culture, you can’t beat a day out in Oxford (half an hour), punting along the river, touring the college quads and visiting the Ashmolean Museum. There are lots of scenic villages and towns to see up in the Cotswolds too – places like Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold (both 50 minutes) may be some of the prettiest places to see in the whole land.
