General

  • Peaceful family site in the grounds of a Victorian farm
  • Eight acres of farmland with plenty of space on site
  • Alpacas, llamas and farm shop

Captain Bluebell's Farm provides traditional farm holidays for guests who enjoy rural simplicity combined with modern facilities. Come and stay in the grounds of a real Victorian farm that dates back to the 1860s, is surrounded by countryside, and which has traditional farm animals and some more exotic four-legged friends...

Stay on historic rig and furrow land that has been untouched since Viking times - this area has a rich history of Viking settlers and who knows, maybe the original Captain Bluebell sailed his long boat ashore at Anderby Creek and ploughed these lands himself...?

The site is close to Anderby Creek beach and midway between all the popular resorts of the east coast. Also a 30-minute drive away is the Donna Nook National Nature Reserve and seal sanctuary. You’ll find lovely coastal walks just at the end of the road too.

The site is set where the coast meets the countryside; the seafront is a couple of miles away at the end of the village. In the area there are beaches for safe bathing and miles of clean sand backed by sand dunes and leading to many traditional villages with restaurants, bars and seaside attractions.

On the farm there are alpacas, sheep, ponies, llamas, chickens and a herd of goats. There are eight acres of farmland with plenty of space around the campsite. Relax here at Captain Bluebell's at a nice family site with plenty of space between pitches and a clean modern shower block. Feel free to let your children explore and play on the farm where they can use their imagination instead of their iPad.

The site has a shop selling camping supplies, jams, chutneys, fresh eggs and Farmer Brown's ice cream. Feel secure in the knowledge that someone is always on site: if you don't find the team in the shop or reception they will be in the farmhouse right by the front gate. There are many dog-walking areas close by and there’s no extra charge to bring your dog as everyone knows they're part of the family.

Public footpaths lead to The Red Lion or you can take a courtesy bus to The Axe and Cleaver in Huttoft – if booked, the landlord will even bring you home again at the end of the night. Both pubs have regular entertainment, good food and Sunday lunches.

A bus service runs from the end of the farm lane to all major resorts in the region as well as to Louth.

Please note this is a peaceful site for families. To preserve the quiet atmosphere of the site, it has a strict quiet/no noise policy between 10.30pm and 7am, meaning no unnecessary noise or group chat is allowed.

On arrival, we were quickly greeted by the owners ( who used our forenames ) and shown to our pitch and helped us with positioning of our caravan, and after a brief chat with the owner we got set up. The site was quiet, clean and nicely spaced with a basic little shop, freezer, hot water urn, microwave, etc.
Shower/toilet block was a converted static caravan.....which I though was rather quirky!! and even though we used our own shower and toilet ( as the sites seemed quite busy from the tents use ) i did look inside the static, and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and modern it was, with fair sized showers.
My wife, grown up daughter and I, really did enjoy our BH weekend and had glorious weather and a BBQ. I know there is a lot of rules on site, but nothing that I personally found unreasonable for the enjoyment of EVERYONE on site, but I appreciate that some families with young children in a tent could find them more difficult to adhere too, as breaking wind in a tent can be heard by your neighbours ( I know!.....we did do camping ourselves for a while ) so I would take this into consideration BEFORE booking, but if your curtious to your fellow campers and use basic common sense you should have an enjoyable time.....and we were given a goodbye wave by both owners as we left!!!

My 2 year old loved our first camping trip being on a farm and feeding the animals but is not really tailored for my older ones as they wanted to run and exsplor make noise and be boys and make friends and shower blocks where very clean and tidy whole site was tidy I can see how quite time works for some so if you have children that wind down early when on holiday this is the site for you this is my personal thought so give it a go I would recoomend for a family wanting some down time to exsplore the farm and chill out form 9

    Disliked:

We found the children back in tents by 9 hard as we wanted to be able to sit outside the tent of an evening chatting etc not making lots of noise but you need to quite down from 10.30 but guess this place is for more of a relaxing family holiday , yes I have 2 boys with me who are boys and wanted to run of exsplore and make friends but due to the nature of the site was told of quite a bit for things that us and a fellow family didn't seem to see as trouble but we did speak to the children about their actions as we were told but again every site is run different felt a little like we had lots of rules to follow and adhear to and told of if you didn't not I proberly get back lash of the owners for my comments judging by previous ones but hay ho this is my personal thought on the site and not everyone will feel the same also a lot of other campers where quick to point fingers at children who were a bit lively as they knew the owners was regulars etc so give it a go and make your own mind up like I say perfect for a quite holiday

From the manager...

I do remember your stay although it has taken you a few weeks to post your review.
The only place your children seemed to want to explore was the shower/toilet block and were asked on numerous occasions not to play in or around that area. All children have all day to explore the farm a play field is provided to meet other children and make noise and run around till their hearts content.
Yes the play field closes at 9 and there is a quiet policy from 10.30pm.We do not hide this it's camping on a farm clearly advertised on pitch up and many other places. Why not read the description before booking and choose a site that is suited to your needs.
As your tag line states "perfect for a quiet" holiday that's exactly what we had advertised.

Everything ! The owners are very friendly and helpful. The site is lovely set in fields with the animals around you and my son enjoyed feeding the animals. The facilities are very good - toilets and showers are very clean and showers have loads of hot water. There's a little shop and also in the barn there's a fridge freezer hot water urn and microwave and toaster for guests to use. 5 minutes drive and you are at Anderby Creek beach with free parking and a cafe. Sutton on Sea and Mablethorpe are a short drive away as well and Skegness Some people have mentioned a list of rules - these are simply common sense and courtesy and help to make a peaceful relaxing family friendly site that everyone can enjoy. Already planning on another visit next year

This is the most ideal campsite with families with children any age to have a good quiet holiday. The animals are really Fun and enjoyable to play with and watch. The london theme that runs across the campsite is Really good and the backfield that is dedicated just for children to play on. We travelled with children with learning disabilities and they found it extremely peaceful and quiet too. The owner of the campsite is really kind and very approachable. The shower block is highly Maintained and is kept clean 2/3 times a day! overall a wonderful campsite, I would visist there again!
