  • Adults-only Caravan and Motorhome Club site in an old railway station
  • Hereford 25 minutes’ drive; Symonds Yat 50 minutes
  • Member price shown; non-members select £15/night extra or join for £69
For an adults-only holiday in the spectacular Herefordshire countryside, with its gentle, vegetation-covered hills and apple orchards (a nice reminder that you’re in cider country now…), consider staying at the Moorhampton Hereford Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. This peaceful park occupies a former railway station, which gives it a somewhat nostalgic vibe. And while the site might feel secluded, its location is actually pretty convenient for visitors who are keen to leave the car behind, with a reliable bus service stopping on the nearby A480 road (a five-minute walk from the site) en route to Hereford (35 minutes by bus, or 25 by car). On site, guests spend their time strolling around the meticulously manicured grounds, exercising their canine companion in the dog park, or sipping delicious locally made cider and perry while they get the barbecue going. For a little exercise, there are hills to hike, several golf courses within a 15-minute drive, and canoeing and fishing at Symonds Yat (50 minutes’ drive), a scenic spot on the River Wye. Exploring the centuries-old timber-framed cottages in Weobley (five minutes), Eardisland (15 minutes) and other Black and White villages is another recommended activity. The site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, but it welcomes both members and non-members. Please note the price displayed is for members, who benefit from special rates; non-members will need to select the £15 per night extra or buy a membership (which gives discounted access to all Club sites for a year).

Local attractions

In Hereford (25 minutes’ drive), take a selfie alongside Edward Elgar, whose statue sits on the grounds of the cathedral. The composer is portrayed with his bicycle, looking up at the Gothic building, which houses the Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world as it was known in the 14 century. Afterwards, stroll through Bishops Meadow, crossing the Wye on the pretty Victoria Bridge. Bookworms might not want to miss the chance to visit the independent and second-hand bookshops in Hay-on-Wye (25 minutes). If you’re visiting between May and June, you might also catch the famed Hay Festival of literature, which attracts authors and poets from all over the world. The market town of Ludlow (40 minutes) has a ruined 11th-century castle on the banks of the River Teme; climb to the top of the battlements for far-reaching views of the spectacular countryside all around. The town’s medieval streets are lined with half-timbered buildings.
