Electric grass pitch

Liked A very peaceful site within a loop of the river Severn. Perfect for cycles into Gloucester, Slimbridge & Berkeley Castle.

We’ve been before and will probably come back again. This is a relaxed site with adequate facilities.

Disliked If you’re looking for pristine and well manicured, this isn’t for you. We weren’t, we wanted relaxed and comfortable and were very happy

Electric grass pitch

Liked A great location for exporing the local countryside on foot or bike. Easy walking distance to their farm cafe and the village pub which serves great food.
Only a 20 minute drive to Gloucester Quays.
The campsite is situated on a family run farm with gorgeous (although noisy) cows with their young calves.

Disliked I wouldn't say it was dislike, but be prepared for farming smells and noises if you stay here. It's a very tranquil, nicely layed out campsite but it's also a working farm.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great rural location, good size pitches, plenty of walking/hiking from here, plus locations for family days out in the surrounding area.

Disliked Intermittent water pressure/supply- yes I read about it before booking but it was actually pretty annoying when trying to wash soap out of your hair or off your body. One night it stopped completely for a few minutes, then returned ice cold, almost impossible to withstand but i had to get the soap off. Apparently the gas had run out that heated the water, it was the worst shower I've ever had. The toilet paper ran out in the ladies and the Unisex toilet and was eventually replaced 15 hours later the next morning. Cleaning left so much to be desired, I don't mind a rustic toilet block that gets cleaned, but I don't believe a proper clean took place over the 4 days we were here. The day the toilet rolls got replaced the cleaning I witnessed seemed to be wiping around the toilet seat with some dry toilet paper. The bins at the washing up area were disgusting, they got emptied but no one ever wiped the swing lids over, there appeared to be days and days of grime and food bits on them. Overall we were disappointed with the washing up and bathrooms and left a night early.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Lovely little location with easy access from the M5 (and far enough to not hear any of the associated traffic). Pitches are a really decent size and flat. Owner seemed very chilled too! There is a cafe next door which serves food and drinks, which has been done out beautifully, recommend to those who visit. Plenty of local walks! Canal is an hour twenty walk away for those who want to go on an adventure

Disliked Nothing. Other reviews have moaned about a farm smell. We only got this slightly when it was windy and by no means ruined our trip and it should certainly not stop others because its a great campsite!!!!

Route directions

From M5, come off at Junction 13 and take the A38 towards Bristol. You will shortly see a garage on the left. Take the right turning signposted Frampton-on-Severn and continue to The Bell public house on the left. Pass through Frampton, continue straight over the canal bridge and go straight across (SP Arlingham and Fretherne). Do not follow the road to Saul. Continue for approximately 3 miles entering the village of Arlingham and turn left at Red Lion public house into Church Road. Pass the church on your right and West End Farm is on the right in about 250 yards.

Local attractions

West End Farm Campsite's local village is Arlingham, also in the River Severn's horseshoe bend and just off Junction 13 of the M5. The area around the village is fab walking and cycling land, of public footpaths, riverside ambles and flat peaceful roads – all set among the first-class scenery of the England/Wales border area. (Don't know where to start? Ask at the Red Lion for details of their hare, salmon, cattle and skylark wanders.) A couple of miles from the farm is the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, running between Sharpness and the old docks of Gloucester. It's a pleasant place to while away a few meandering hours, particularly around Patch Bridge, close to the Wildfowl Reserve at Slimbridge which has the world's biggest collection of captive wildfowl. Other local options are Berkeley and the Edward Jenner Museum, where the clever chap first figured out vaccination, and Berkeley Castle, where poor old Edward 2 met his grisly end. Gloucester Cathedral is nine miles from the site; a little further afield are the Norman castle of Goodrich and the Tudor National Trust-managed house of Newark Park.
