Liked The lodge was really nice and clean. Lovely views and walks from the site. The enclosed garden for the dog was excellent. Lovely welcome from the owners.

Disliked The only thing and please note this is only a personal view, is that the mattreses on the beds could be firmer. Wouldn't stop us from coming back though.😃

Liked Excellent accommodation and location. Close by car to Bakewell (about ten mins drive). Accomodation was well equipped with great views and we really enjoyed our stay.

Liked The place was spotless when we arrived there. Bedrooms was a good size and kitchen was perfect. Parking was right outside the Lodge and with having are dog with us the garden was inclosed so safe for him to run around. There was everything you needed in the Lodge all you had to bring is some towels. Perfect views

Liked Beautiful countryside around, really peaceful site, good clean loos, friendly owners and plenty of space to pitch without feeling crowded. Information about the showers and hot water for washing up needing coins is plentiful so no excuse for not knowing. There is also a freezer so you can refreeze ice blocks, and there are phone charging lockers too if you need them. Really good value at £9 per person per night!

Disliked Cars racing on nearby roads were an unwanted noisy intrusion, but not the camp site's fault obviously.

Local attractions

Eating as much Bakewell pudding as you like is perfectly acceptable because of the abundance of hiking trails on which to burn off the calories (that’s your excuse and you’re sticking to it). The limestone valley of Lathkill Dale, just outside the site, is a very fine place for a walk and has some excellent birdwatching to be done along the way. Further walks await all over the Peak District National Park for all abilities. The relatively gentle paths of Mam Tor and the Ladybower Reservoir are about 40 minutes’ drive away; keen hikers in search of a challenge should aim for Kinder Scout, 50 minutes’ drive away, to climb up to the highest point in the park. A popular option for families (on foot or by bike) is the Monsal Trail (20 minutes' drive), meandering through nature reserves and underground tunnels to finish near Bakewell (for a restorative pudding perchance?). For a spot of history (or to shelter on a damp day), head to Chatsworth, a splendid estate on the banks of the Derwent river half an hour away.
