Climbing in Cornwall
If you want to go climbing in Britain, Cornwall's your best bet. There are well over 2000 mapped climbs in the county, with single day climbs, climbing holiday and climbing courses all available. You can climb in Cornwall on the cliffs and crags, try the inland sites on the moors, or take in one of the many indoor climbing walls. There are climbs both indoors and out for climbers of all abilities, from novice to expert.
Try these spots for some of the best Cornish climbing, covering a mix of climbs and locations.
- Bosigran: This granite cliff on the Penwith Peninsula is known as one of the best climbing spots in Cornwall and in Britain as a whole. There are plenty of climbs of different levels available along the cliff's different routes, with the Commando Ridge among the most popular.
- Chair Ladder: The place to go if you want to be at the extreme end of Cornwall. The Terrier's Tooth climb is the one to go for if you're an experienced climber, going out to an exposed slab over the sea.
- Wicca Pillar: A 50 ft granite pillar with good climbing for the less experienced climber, with some of the best views in Cornwall of the coastline below. Routes are short and up to around 80 ft.
- Eden Project: A selection of five routes of varying difficulty on the conservation project's climbing wall up the cliff face to the left of the Rainforest Biome. Climbers can also try the Bouldering Wall with climbs up to level 7c.
- The Cheesewring: Granite tor in a quarry on Bodmin Moor with several routes available on slick rock. There are single and multi-pitch climbs at all grades, with the highest going up to 120 ft.
- Sennen: Sea cliff climbing above the fishing village of Sennen, with slab climbing, overhangs and cracks for climbers of all abilities. All the routes have been well mapped out by previous climbers – try the popular granite Demo Route.
- The Barn Climbing Centre: One of the top indoor climbing centres in Cornwall, with a climbing wall and free-standing boulder, climbing courses and lead wall with 70 routes. The centre also runs outdoor climbing courses for adults and has a children's club.

If you're looking for a family park, there are plenty available all over Cornwall within easy driving distance of the best climb spots – Mullion Holiday Park on the Lizard Peninsula has kids' clubs, children's library and family film screenings, while the family friendly Budemeadows Touring Park has plenty to do for all ages and is near the extreme climbing routes at Lower Sharpnose Point.
