Acres of private fields for you to camp on at the hop farm
Camping by the woodland
Ehu hardstanding pitch

  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

What customers say

Large, open campsite with great river access. Plenty of space between stands. Facilities are decent, but some feel they need more frequent cleaning or updating, and could be closer. Management's responsive, staff are friendly and helpful. Mostly quiet, though some noise from other campers and cars has been noted, with rules generally enforced. Dog-friendly.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Access to Medway River

Disliked While the site had a very large area for camping it was more a residential park than traditional campsite. Electric pitches were concentrated in a fairly small area away from the River. Facilities were disgusting when we arrived on a Sunday but cleaned OK by Monday morning and afterwards.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We only have 1 small electric field which does have long stay guests, this is not a residential park. There are 8 very large non-electric fields and 3 are very close to the river, the electric field you were on is further away from the river which meant a long walk or a short drive with your kayaks.
The majority of guests compliment the facilities including those staying on the Sunday you arrived, I presume you used the facilities just before our cleaners arrived again.

Overall a pleasant stay.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Plenty of space and lovely location.

Disliked Expensive electric hook up, especially as summer time and very little electric used.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nice location. Easy to get to. Plenty of walks near by and the river.

Plenty of space if you are camping non electric.

Friendly staff on arrival.

Disliked Lots of vehicle movement and most driving way too fast, some with people sitting in the boot or in back of trucks.

Some cars would drive so close to your pitch there’s no way they could see if a child was about to run out.

Where the site is so big and there is only 1 toilet block, a lot of people were driving too and from the toilet block.

Think about where you are pitching of you don’t want cars driving passed you all day long.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
There are only 2 toilet and shower blocks which are right next to each other, therefore it is advisable to bring a toilet tent if you want to be in the outer fields.
I do not know why some people choose to totally disregard the 5 MPH speed limit as you could clearly see. When I have stopped or taken a note of their registration and found the drivers quite often they have young children sitting in the car with them, I am sure they would be up in arms if one of their children got hit by a speeding careless driver. Unbelievable!
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Massive site so not sitting in top of people.

Disliked Toilets & showers basic, only one block for the whole site so lots of cars from the far away fields driving around.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: There are 2 toilet and shower blocks, however they are right next to each other, and if choosing to be in a field further away it is advisable to bring a toilet tent to avoid either a long walk or having to drive to them.
It is a shame you will not stay again to enjoy the country and river walks.

An enjoyable weekend, made better by glorious weather.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked plenty of space on the campsite. river life location.

Disliked some idiots driving too fast on the campsite. code to get in toilet seems a bit pointless. lock broken while we were there so no one could get in..

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
Some people do think they are exempt from the campsite policies especially the 5MPH speed limit, when caught they try to argue they were not speeding!
When we were notified of the broken lock it was removed to allow the door to be opened, the code is to prevent children under the age of 12 years from going in unattended and to keep the general public from using them as there are lots of public footpaths through the campsite.
We look forward to seeing you again.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Great toilet and shower facilities with sufficient hot water. Lots of space to not be bothered by neighbouring campers (at least for unpowered pitches.

Disliked The adventure park was closed and we really missed not being allowed to have a fire. We understand that this was for safety reasons but the gang were cold in the evening.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay here and for leaving a review.
As the grass has turned to straw like conditions we have had to put a firepit ban in place, hopefully we will get rain soon to turn the grass green again and the firepit ban can be lifted.
It was still in the mid 20`s overnight on the Friday, however Saturday evening was windy and felt cooler so jumpers were required, on our 10pm rounds we noticed some guests sitting outside with their duvets to keep warm.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Local attractions

Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Whitstable and Herne Bay are popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Try Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, home to gorillas and operating experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
