Waterfall Sanctuary

When it comes to exploring off the property, 20 minutes’ drive takes you to the majestic Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, where you can hike, go mountain biking and horseback ride through dramatic mountain landscapes. A little closer to home are the trailheads leading from the impressive waterfalls at Falls Creek and Panther Creek (both 20 minutes’ drive), and you can also follow sections of the Pacific Crest Trail (25 minutes). If you have young kids with you, introduce them to hiking with easy ambles in Wind River Arboretum (10 minutes), or take a kayak tour down the Columbia River. Hood River (35 minutes) is a gorgeous old-time riverside town that also happens to be the watersports hub of the western USA; you can go windsurfing, kiteboarding and paddleboarding on the water. The town closest to the property is Stevenson (25 minutes), which has stores, supermarkets and restaurants; you can also cruise the river on a vintage steamboat. If you’re in the mood for city life, Portland, Oregon, is about an hour’s drive to the west, with its thriving café and brewing scene, theaters and galleries.
