  • Peaceful site in remote countryside among grassy fields and woodland
  • Less than 10 mins’ drive to North Dorset Trailway walks, cycle rides
  • Firepits, lots of animals and spacious green areas for kids to play
Book a stay at Charisworth Farm for rural roams and animal antics: this site in the middle of the Dorset countryside is home to domesticated creatures ranging from cows, pigs and sheep to chicken, geese and horses – plus lots of local wildlife like deer and birds… When not getting up close and personal with critters you can rest in grassland among trees at this leafy park, with plenty of space for adults to unwind while the children play. In the local area, walking and cycling can be had on the countryside bridleways – including on the North Dorset Trailway that runs from Poole to Sturminster Newton less than 10 minutes’ drive away. In the evenings this site’s all about peaceful, quiet times around the firepit (music and parties aren’t permitted). Every May Bank Holiday it gets a little livelier as it hosts the family-friendly charity event Teddy Rocks Festival. Not here during the festivities? Amusement is still all around: an extreme-sports centre is just over a five-minute drive away for quad biking and paintballing and you can head over to the town of Blandford Forum (around 10 minutes by car) to browse the shops or check out the military communications and fashion museums. If you’ve not got your fill of cute creatures, even more are at Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes’ drive) away where you can seeing poorly primates being rehabilitated. For sandy times instead, the beaches of Sandbanks and Studland are both a 40-minute drive from the site.

There is plenty of green space for kids to run and play and the farm just around. Toilets and showers are simple and clean. The owner is very helpful and friendly. He organised the place very nicely. Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: LOVED our stay! Very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Beautiful views, peaceful surroundings, we very much enjoyed walking round meeting all the animals everyday, exploring the woods and trails around the farm. Good toilet/shower facilities - proper toilet cubicles. Attended with friends and extended family with children, it was no problem for us all to camp together (pitch up website says different). Fire pits available and logs for a small fee which made for some lovely evenings around the fire with marshmallows. Will 100% book to stay at Charisworth Farm again!!

Bell tent

Liked: Farmer Richard was so lovely and kind! He was really helpful but also brilliant chatting about the farm and wildlife to my children. My daughter adores horses and Richard’s wife let my daughter meet her horses - which was the highlight of the holiday for my daughter! The site was in a wonderful location and perfect for the children to play in the field. We also brought our dog who had the best holiday ever! The bell tents were clean and comfortable beds. There was a picnic table out the front with a fire pit. You can buy logs at the farm but it’s worth taking fire lighters. Toilets clean and tidy. The washing up area had washing up liquid and dishcloths. Small barn/basic clubhouse. This was really handy as you can charge phones etc and use the fridge and freezer.

Disliked: The shower was on the slightly basic side but temperature was good and space to hang towels etc

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Beautiful views, lovely open space with stunning animals and lovely walks. Very peaceful, not many people on site the whole week.

Disliked: Although it wasn't exactly busy the cleanliness of the toilets and showers let it down. Fair enough clean up after yourselves but I guess everyone's cleaning standards are very different.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Nice suroundings and lots of place to run. Had a pleasant shower. We had fun playing badminton. Very nice owner.

Disliked: Out little one struggled to walk a bit as the grass was a bit long. Toilets needed a bit more attention and the shower light kept turning off, also quite tiny for us being quite tall. Also probably we did a mistake by parking to close to the farm as we instantly had so many flies keeping in our caravan. Couldnt get rid of all of them so didn't have a good sleep in the morning.

Local attractions

Dorset is known for its historic market towns like Wareham, a spot set beside the River Frome. Travel for 20 minutes to reach this destination with its Saxon walls then get out into the countryside at the Blue Pool former clay quarry filled in with turquoise water. Wimborne’s another town worth a punt: turn up here for the minster and market (25 minutes drive) or travel the same distance to Dorchester for a teddy bear museum, writer Thomas Hardy’s old 19th-century house and the Maiden Castle ancient hillfort. Poole (half an hour) also has historic buildings to check out, especially in the Old Town with its Georgian houses and at Poole Museum’s medieval Scaplen’s Court. Take boats to Brownsea Island from the harbour for woodland paths from which to see rare red squirrels bounding around. For old vehicles instead of buildings and wildlife, The Tank Museum in Bovington Camp with displays of armoured fighting vehicles is 20 minutes away.
